Day 1 of 1
Zimbabwe won by 30 runs.

Zimbabwe vs W Indies

Harare woe for Windies

Chanderpaul century not enough for West Indies

Chigumbura: Match-winner

Elton Chigumbura took three wickets as Zimbabwe beat West Indies by 31 runs in the first One-Day International (ODI) in Harare.

Justice Chibhabha (73) and Stuart Matsikenyeri (55) both hit half-centuries as Zimbabwe made a challenging 274-8 after being put in.

And in the end it proved enough for the hosts to record just their second win in 23 ODIs.

West Indies paceman Jerome Taylor and off-spinner Chris Gayle took two wickets apiece, but proved expensive, while Dwayne Bravo was the pick of the tourists' attack with figures of 2-39.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul struck an unbeaten 127 in the reply, but lacked the support to take the Windies to the finish line.

Gayle, Devon Smith, Bravo, Denesh Ramdin and Ravi Rampaul all failed to make it into double figures and Chanderpaul eventually ran out of overs.

Chigumbura removed both openers and was ably backed by Chibhabha - who capped a superb individual performance with the wickets of dangermen Runako Morton (55) and Bravo (duck).

Zimbabwe take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series as a result, and will hope for more of the same in the second ODI on Sunday.
