Zimbabwe vs Pakistan

Ahmed Shehzad stars with bat as Pakistan seal T20 series against Zimbabwe

Ahmed Shehzad (r) is congratulated by his skipper Mohammad Hafeez

Ahmed Shehzad again starred with the bat as Pakistan rounded off the two-match Twenty20 series against Zimbabwe with a 19-run victory in Harare.

Following on from his score of 70 in Friday's win, the 21-year-old produced a superb unbeaten knock of 98 to help the tourists to an imposing 179-1 from their 20 overs.

Shezhad's unbroken second-wicket stand of 143 with captain Mohammad Hafeez (54 not out) left Zimbabwe's batsmen with much work to do, and although Hamilton Masakadza (41) and Elton Chigumbura (35no) put up some brave resistance they fell short of their target on 160-6.

Opener Shezhad gave a hint of what was to come with a six off Prosper Utseya in the opening over, but much of the early work was done by his partner Nasir Jamshed, who had bludgeoned his way to 23 from 17 balls before miscuing a short delivery from Shingi Masakadza to Chigumbura at mid-off.

Zimbabwe's celebrations were short-lived, however, as Hafeez joined forces with Shezhad and the pair soon had the hosts on the ropes.

Hafeez cuts loose

Shezhad smashed two more sixes and four boundaries on his way to a half-century in 42 balls, while Hafeez's fifty required even fewer deliveries, 36, including three fours and two sixes.

Between them, the pair went on to hit nine boundaries and eight maximums and left Zimbabwe facing a daunting target as they attempted to level the series.

It was a valiant reply from the home side with openers Vusi Sibanda and Hamilton Masakadza putting on 50 for the opening wicket before Hafeez accounted for the former on 23.

Captain Brendan Taylor (three) fell cheaply but Masakadza continued to steer the ship and helped take the score on to 95 before Hafeez struck again to claim his third scalp with the right-hander approaching his fifty.

Zulfiqar Babar then accounted for both Sean Williams and (25) and Timycen Maruma (nought) in quick succession as Zimbabwe stumbled, and although Chigumbura did his best to try and rescue a result the hill proved too steep to climb.
