Yorkshire edge to two-wicket triumph

Pyrah: starred with bat and ball in Yorkshire win

Friends Provident Trophy - Group C
Headingley Carnegie
Durham 166 v Yorkshire 167-8 (J J Sayers 51)
Yorkshire beat Durham by 2 wkts

Richard Pyrah's 42 not out guided Yorkshire to a thrilling two-wicket success in a low-scoring FP Trophy encounter against Durham.

A half-century from Tykes opener Joe Sayers looked to have put the hosts on course to chase down a target of 167 at Headingley Carnegie.

But Sayers' dismissal, bowled by left-arm spinner Ian Blackwell (3-26), prompted a collapse that saw Yorkshire stumble from 108-4 to 130-8.

Pyrah, batting at number six, stood firm and finally found an ally in David Wainwright (13no).

The ninth-wicket pair sharing an unbroken 37-run stand to see Yorkshire home with four balls to spare.

Victory was sealed when Pyrah dispatched the second delivery of the final over, bowled by former Yorkshire paceman Mitchell Claydon (0-18), to the point boundary.

Durham had earlier been bowled out for 166 in 49.3 overs after opting to bat first.

Gordon Muchall's 31 was the top score as Pyrah bagged 3-23 with his medium pace.

The result puts Yorkshire level with Sussex in second place on six points in Group C, while Durham are bottom having won just once in six matches.
