Yorks vs Durham

Breese blast saves Dynamos

Last-ball six ensures a dramatic tie at Headingley

Breese: Last ball heroics

Twenty20 Cup - North Division
Headingley Carnegie
Yorkshire 159-7 Innings Complete (A McGrath 65, S J Harmison 4-38) v Durham 159-7 Innings Complete (R M Pyrah 4-20)
Yorkshire tied with Durham

Durham's Gareth Breese smashed a six off the last ball of the match to bring about a thrilling tie in the Twenty20 Cup clash with Yorkshire at Headingley.

The dramatic point propelled Dynamos to the top of the North Group table - the spot which Yorkshire would have occupied had they won.

In a game of fluctuating fortunes, Yorkshire would have gained a fifth consecutive victory in the competition if Darren Gough had not been no-balled in the penultimate over by umpire Allan Jones because they had insufficient fielders inside the circle.

The ball to Breese went for two leg byes but the no-ball meant that a total of three runs were added to the score.

Pyrah record

Chasing a 160-run target, Durham were 146-7 when the final over arrived and although Liam Plunkett took two off the first ball from Tim Bresnan the next two deliveries were hit straight back to the bowler.

Plunkett then drove a leg-side boundary but with eight needed off two balls he could only manage a single to leave Breese on strike for the final delivery which cleared the fence at extra cover.

Yorkshire all-rounder Richard Pyrah, though, took the man-of-the-match award after he took 4-20 to become the county's first bowler in Twenty20 cricket to take four wickets.

Earlier, Anthony McGrath (65) had top scored for Yorkshire with Michael Vaughan (34) and Jacques Rudolph (33) also chipping in to help Carnegie up to a par total of 159-7.

Durham's response failed to gather momentum, and despite the heroics of Breese it was opener Phil Mustard's 40 off 28 balls which set the visitors up nicely for their final flourish.
