Twenty20 Cup - Midlands/West/Wales Division
Worcestershire 162-6 v Warwickshire 166-3 (I J L Trott 86 no)
Warwickshire beat Worcestershire by 7 wkts
Jonathan Trott moved Warwickshire closer to a place in the last eight of the Twenty20 Cup with a match-winning 86 not out against Worcestershire.
The England Lions batsman hit his fourth half-century in this year's tournament to help the Bears surpass their opponents' total of 162-6 with seven wickets to spare.
Opening the innings, Trott smashed nine fours and three sixes in his 53-ball knock to steer the visitors to glory off the first ball of the last over at New Road.
Neil Carter chipped in with 45 in a first-wicket stand worth 105 before Moeen Ali claimed two wickets in two balls to give the Royals fresh hope.
However, Trott refused to let the innings fall away, finishing the match in style with his third maximum to take his personal T20 tally in 2009 to 431 runs.
Worcestershire had never replicated the batting form they displayed in their last match against Glamorgan in their innings, Vikram Solanki falling for just eight having made a hundred against the Welsh side. The home skipper was then unable to lead his side in the field due to a bad back.
Fellow opener Steve Davies made a quick-fire 22 off 12 balls before Moeen took over, hitting three fours and a six in his 46.
The left-hander, playing against his former county, shared a partnership of 63 in nine overs with the experienced Ben Smith (30).
Ashley Noffke (32) then produced some late fireworks, including two successive fours off the bowling of Rikki Clarke, who conceded 51 off his four overs.
