Proteas can't flatten Pears

Proteas slip to 67-4 in second innings before teams shake hands

Aneesh Kapil: entertaining half-century contained 12 fours at New Road

Chris Russell: took three wickets before teams called an end to proceedings

An entertaining half-century from Worcestershire's Aneesh Kapil was the highlight of the second and final day of the tour match against South Africa.

Kapil struck 67, containing 12 fours off 80 balls, before the home side were dismissed for 245 - a slender first innings advantage of eight runs.

The England Under-19 all-rounder finally departed when he was bowled leg stump while trying to play an off drive against Robin Peterson, who finished as the pick of the Proteas attack with figures of 4-67.

The left-arm spinner went on to remove Ben Scott for a useful 33 and then dismissed David Lucas with his very next delivery. He ended the innings by getting Richard Jones caught by stand-in skipper AB de Villiers for 21.

Defiant knock

Resuming on 70-3, the hosts lost Neil Pinner when he was snapped up low down by wicketkeeper Thami Tsolekile off an edge from Lowanbo Tsotsobe.

The same bowler also ended Matt Pardoe defiant 174-minute knock, though by then the batsman had carried his overnight score of 40 on to 53.

Young all-rounder Joe Leach, making his debut for Worcestershire, was bowled by Morne Morkel for 16 before the lunch break at New Road.

South Africa's second innings got off to an uncomfortable start with Chris Russell continuing to celebrate his first senior appearance for two years by removing Albie Morkel, JP Duminy and Dale Steyn.

Lucas had already by then removed Alviro Petersen, the opener making just 11 ahead of the second Test against England at Headingley, as the tourists limped to 67-4 before the two teams shook hands.
