Friends Life t20: Five wickets for Graham Wagg as Glamorgan beat Worcestershire

Graham Wagg: Career best figures

Chris Cooke Glamorgan

Graham Wagg returned career-best figures of 5-14 to help Glamorgan to a commanding 58-run victory against Worcestershire on the Duckworth-Lewis method.

The visitors were put in for their weather-hit Friends Life t20 match at New Road, and made 159-4 from 14 overs following a fine half-century from Chris Cooke which left the hosts facing a revised target of 161.

Medium-pacer Wagg was in deadly form though and his wickets helped restrict Worcestershire to just 102-9 as he registered the best bowling figures in the competition for the Welsh county.

An opening stand worth 36 in 3.2 overs between Moeen Ali and Thilan Samaraweera got the hosts off to a decent start but a terrible spell of losing six wickets for just 14 runs in 18 balls cost them any chance of victory.

Glamorgan started well by smacking West Indian recruit Andre Russell for 16 off his opening over, and they progressed to 61-1 after six overs, when the gloomy conditions worsened with rain forcing the players back to the pavilion.

The match resumed after a 75-minute delay with spinner Moeen quickly going for 16 in one over including two fours and a six by Jim Allenby.

Wickets

The opener went on to make 37 off 24 balls, containing one six and six fours, before being run out by a smart direct hit from short fine leg by Shantry.

He had put on 53 in five overs with Cooke who completed his half century during an over in which paceman Chris Russell conceded 22 runs.

Cooke fell shortly afterwards for 57 after smacking four sixes and five fours off 27 balls when he was yorked by Russell who also accounted for Murray Goodwin.

Worcestershire soon faced mountainous task when Wagg pounced to rip out Moeen, Samaraweera and Gareth Andrew in the space of four balls.

Worse was to follow for the hosts when New Zealander all-rounder Nathan McCullum, making his Glamorgan debut, removed Andre Russell with his first delivery.
