West Indies vs New Zealand

Women's World Cup cricket: West Indies beat New Zealand in Super Six in Mumbai

Tremayne Smartt took three wickets

Stafanie Taylor: Top scored for Windies

West Indies secured a first ever win over New Zealand to keep them in with a chance of making the ICC Women's World Cup final.

They won by 48 runs in their Super Six meeting in Mumbai, and now they need to beat an Australian side that have already qualified to join them in Sunday's final.

A West Indies win also kept defending champions England's hopes of returning to the final alive, as they now need to beat New Zealand on Wednesday and hope Australia do them a favour against the Windies to try and squeeze through on net run rate.

It looked like the West Indies could struggle to do their bit as they made 207 when being put in to bat first by New Zealand, but led by Tremayne Smartt the Windies bowling got consistent breakthroughs and bowled New Zealand out for 159.

Stafanie Taylor top-scored for the West Indies with 49 from 53 balls, falling just short of her half-century when caught behind off New Zealand skipper Suzie Bates.

Deandra Dottin add a lively 27 from 21 balls to give the innings some impetus, while Shanel Daley made a more serene 37 to get them within touching distance of a competitive total.

It was Anisa Mohammed who put the West Indies in with a real shout of victory though as she took them beyond the 200-run mark with her late 31 coming at almost a run a ball.
