West Indies v Pakistan: Debutant Zulfiqar Babar hits winning runs in Arnos Vale

Shahid Afridi: Struck 46 from 27 balls to inspire Pakistan

Kieron Pollard: Hit an unbeaten 49 down the order for West Indies

Pakistan ended West Indies' seven-match winning run in Twenty20 internationals after holding their nerve to clinch a two-wicket victory off the final ball in Arnos Vale.

With the scores level, debutant Zulfiqar Babar smashed the final ball, bowled by Marlon Samuels, over long-on for six to put Pakistan 1-0 ahead in the two-match series.

It was quite an introduction to international cricket for 34-year-old Babar, who had earlier taken 3-23 to help restrict West Indies to 152-7.

Only powerful late hitting by Kieron Pollard and captain Darren Sammy lifted the West Indies to a competitive total after the top order had failed to fire.

Openers Johnson Charles and Chris Gayle both perished to the off-spin of Mohaamad Hafeez, who conceded just four runs off two overs.

Pollard's unbeaten 49 represented a welcome return to form in a version of the game in which he excels, while Sammy's blistering 30 off 14 balls completed the home side's recovery from the considerable discomfort of 42-4.

Pakistan made a stuttering start to the run chase, however Umar Amin's 34-ball 47 put the tourists back on track.

Shahid Afridi maintained his fine batting form with a typically belligerent 46 from just 27 balls, however his dismissal in the penultimate over sent nerves jangling on the away balcony.

Six runs were required off Samuels' final over of the match and the game looked over when Babar found the rope first ball with a lofted drive over extra cover.

Samuels came back well with two dot balls and the game was tied when Saeed Ajmal was run out by Lendl Simmons' direct hit off the fifth ball.

But Babar held his nerve, lofting the final delivery over the rope to spark wild celebrations.
