United Arab Emi vs Ireland

ICC World Twenty20: Ireland to meet Afghanistan following a 62-run win over UAE

Trent Johnson: Top-scored for Ireland with 35 runs in Friday's semi-final victory

Ireland have coasted into the ICC World Twenty20 qualifier series final following a 62-run victory over United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

Ireland will meet Afghanistan in Saturday's final after they earlier secured a seven-wicket win over Nepal, who will face UAE in the third-place play-off.

Ireland batted first after winning the toss and they set UAE an imposing 148 target to win after they made 147-8 from their 20 overs.

Trent Johnson top-scored for Ireland with 35 runs from 18 deliveries while Kevin O'Brien (31) and John Mooney (25) also made telling contributions.

Left-arm Manjula Guruge was the pick of the bowlers for UAE with figures of 3-21. He accounted for the wickets of William Porterfield (7), Paul Sterling (17) and Mooney.

Response

UAE made a decent response in their run chase, but none of their leading batsmen were able to make a serious dent on the scoreboard.

Once Amjad Javed fell in the tenth over with the UAE on just 45 their hopes of victory were all but gone. UAE's final five batsmen mustered just 11 runs, leaving their total on 85.

Max Sorensen did much of the damage with the ball for Ireland with 4-15 from his four overs while Tim Murtagh also claimed four wickets for just 24 runs.

"The wickets are wearing down and we thought 150 was a good enough target," Sorensen told Sky Sports. "We felt that if we bowled well and bowled to our strengths that we would win it."
