Titans vs Perth

Titans kick off Champions League T20 with crushing win over Scorchers

Jacques Rudolph: 83 not out off 59 balls

Herschelle Gibbs: contributed 19

South African T20 champions the Titans took full advantage of playing on their home ground in Centurion on Saturday, beating Perth Scorchers by 39 runs in the opening game of the tournament.

Titans scored 163-4 in their 20 overs, with Jacques Rudolph making 83 not out off 59 balls, and Henry Davids adding 54.

The Scorchers' chase never found its feet as the Titans took regular wickets, CJ de Villiers starring with 3-16 in his four overs. Only Mitchell Marsh was able to add a meaningful score of 52 not out as they finished on 124-7.

Rudolph and Davids took the attack to the Scorchers from the start as Davids raced to his seventh T20 century, hitting four boundaries and four sixes on his way to 54.

The Scorchers got to 17 in their reply before losing quick wickets, De Villiers removing Shaun Marsh and then Marcus North for a duck two balls later, in the fourth over.

Herschelle Gibbs was caught behind by Heino Kuhn off Alfonso Thomas for 19, leaving Simon Katich and Marsh to continue the chase.

The Scorchers were well behind the asking rate, and their fourth wicket fell when Katich send the ball back to bowler Eden Links, who dived low to his right to take the catch.

Luke Ronchi was next to fall, clean-bowled by Wiese for nine, and Perth still needed 88 runs off 37 balls. Rimmington followed in the next over, caught by Rudolph, and it was all over bar the shouting at 81-6 with five overs to go.

Marsh demonstrated typical Aussie fighting spirit, despite being on a sinking ship, as he blasted the biggest six SuperSport Park has ever seen, a monster 116-meter straight drive that landed on the pavilion roof.
