Sydney Sixers vs Yorks

Champions League Twenty20: Yorkshire suffer heavy defeat against Sydney Sixers

Michael Lumb: Sydney opener hit 43 not out off 24 balls

Mitchell Starc: Sydney Sixers seamer claimed three wickets against county he played for last summer

Yorkshire were undone by two former players during an eight-wicket defeat to Sydney Sixers at the Champions League Twenty20.

Left-arm seamer Mitchell Starc, who spent part of last summer at Headingley as overseas pro, claimed 3-22 as Yorkshire were restricted to 96-9 after opting to bat at Newlands.

Michael Lumb, a product of Yorkshire's academy, hit 43 not out as the Sixers knocked off their target in 8.5 overs.

Brad Haddin combined with Lumb in a 78-run partnership for the second wicket in eight overs, Haddin falling for 41 with eight runs needed.

Lumb, who hit eight fours in his 24-ball contribution, finished off the job by dispatching spinner Azeem Rafiq (1-21) for successive boundaries.

Yorkshire openers Andrew Gale (8) and Phil Jaques (21) had earlier put on 30 but fell in quick succession, a double blow from which the innings never recovered.

Josh Hazlewood (1-9) bowled Gale as he moved across in the sixth over and Starc had Jaques caught on the boundary by Dominic Thornely via a top-edged pull in the next.

Third-wicket pair Joe Root (25) and Adam Lyth (18) dug in during a 32-run stand, thereafter it was a procession as the Australian side's seam attack struck regular blows.

Starc was well supported by Pat Cummins (2-13) and Shane Watson (2-27), who will play only once more at the tournament - against the Highveld Lions on Thursday - before returning home at the behest of Cricket Australia.

Sydney's second win in a row puts them top of Group B, while Yorkshire have the chance to respond against Mumbai Indians at the same venue on Thursday.
