Friends Provident Trophy - South/East Division
Sussex 245-6 (M H Yardy 50) v Kent 249-6 (J M Kemp 68 no, M van Jaarsveld 58)
Kent beat Sussex by 4 wkts
Kent secured their first Friends Provident Trophy victory at the third attempt as they chased down a target of 246 against Sussex.
Justin Kemp hit five fours and a six in an unbeaten 78 from just 79 balls that steered the Spitfires to glory in a close finish at Hove.
Kemp kept his cool at the death, combining with Ryan McLaren to score the 26 needed off the final two overs, 18 of which came off one from Luke Wright.
Martin van Jaarsveld had earlier made 58 to launch Kent's reply, the South African batsman adding 93 in 18 overs for the second wicket with opener Joe Denly (43) before both fell to Wright in the space of four deliveries.
The defeat leaves Sussex still searching for their maiden success of 2008 despite a first half century of the campaign from Mike Yardy.
Matt Prior (31) and Chris Nash (15) got the hosts away to a good start with an opening partnership of 61 that was eventually ended by former team-mate Yasir Arafat.
Kent then picked up three for 18 in the space of five overs, forcing Yardy to rebuild the innings by adding 67 in 16 overs for the fifth wicket with Wright (35).
