Essex confirmed their place in the quarter-finals of the Friends Provident Trophy after their match against Sussex at Hastings was abandoned.
Heavy overnight rain had made the square unplayable and the match - Sussex's first at Horntye Park for eight years - was called off with grey skies threatening yet more rain.
Umpires Jeremy Lloyds and Neil Mallender gave the game every chance, finally ruling no play would be possible following a third inspection at 2pm.
Essex's point from the no result puts them two behind leaders Kent.
Sussex's interest in the competition had already been ended by four defeats in six games.
Essex play their final match in the South East group against Middlesex at Lord's on Wednesday, while Sussex face Surrey at Whitgift School.
