S Africa vs Pakistan
South Africa have won the first Test match shortly before lunch on the 4th day. A brave Pakistan team managed to score 268 in their 2nd innings but fell a massive 211 short, giving South Africa a crushing victory. The game was effectively decided when Pakistan were rolled over for 49 in their first dig. A great deal of soul searching will have to be done by the Pakistan batsmen in particular if they are to challenge the number one team on the planet in the remaining two Test matches in the series.
Over 101 - Pak 268/9 (Rahat 2, Junaid 9)
An appeal fools the crowd into thinking that the contest in over. The ball just flicked the pad on the way through to the keeper and Steyn has to wait for his 11th wicket. WICKET. Junaid is given out LBW and Steyn picks up 11 wickets for the match and records his best bowling figures in the process. Pakistan are all out for 268. South Africa win by 211 runs.
Over 100 - Pak 268/9 (Rahat 2, Junaid 9)
South Africa require just one more wicket to take a lead in the series. Morkel will be looking to finish things off in this over. The bowling is just too short and Rahat is not getting the bat anywhere near the ball. A full, quick delivery is what is needed. There is very little chance that Rahat will be able to defend six balls in a row. The over comes to an end and it will now give another bowler the opportunity to pick up an easy Test wicket.
Over 99 - Pak 262/9 (Rahat 1, Junaid 9)
Steyn's over starts with a huge appeal for caught behind. The umpire has given it not out but the Proteas have reviewed the decision. The decision is reversed. Steyn has his tenth wicket for the match and AB de Villiers equals Jack Russle's record of 11 catches in a Test. Gul is out for 23 and is passed on his way to the change room by the pakistan number 11, Rahat. The new batsman is off the mark with a chip into the off-side.
Over 98 - Pak 261/8 (Gul 23, Junaid 9)
Gul runs Morkel down to thrid-man for a single. He has no interest in protecting is partner at the wicket. It is probably time for Steyn to take a rest in the next over and hopefully Kallis can clean up this tail. Junaid backs away and slashes another four. That will rub salt into the wound as Morkel bowled him off a no-ball in his last over.
Over 97 - Pak 256/8 (Gul 22, Junaid 5)
Steyn is in to Gul again. That is the second wicket off a no-ball in the Test. Allen Donald, the bowling coach, will not be happy but it may be the luck that Dale Steyn needs so that he can pick up his ten wickets for the match. Steyn beats the bat repeatedly by can't seem to find the edge.
Over 96 - Pak 255/8 (Gul 22, Junaid 5)
A single off the first ball of Morkel's over brings up the 250 for Pakistan. Junaid then leans back and smashes a four. The big South African quick responds with a couple short deliveries as he shows his emotions through his bowling. A full ball is well dug out by Junaid. WICKET. Junaid backs away and tries to repeat the dose from earlier in the over and his bails go flying. Oh no, its a no-ball. Junaid is NOT OUT.
Over 95 - Pak 249/8 (Gul 21, Junaid 1)
Junaid is on strike as Steyn runs in and produces a short ball. Junaid swipes and misses but then gets forward nicely and eases a single off the next delivery. Steyn drifts onto leg-stump and Gul shows his talent with the bat as he times the ball through straight mid-wicket for four. Surely Steyn can't continue for much longer even though he is desperate for his tenth wicket.
Over 94 - Pak 243/8 (Gul 16, Junaid 0)
Morkel starts another over to Gul. AB de Villiers will be hoping for one of the last two wickets to land in his gloves as he would then equal the world record of eleven catches in a Test by a wicket-keeper. Gul Plays out the maiden over.
Over 93 - Pak 243/8 (Gul 16, Junaid 0)
Steyn continues and must be starting to feel a little weary. Gul slices a full ball over point and picks up another two runs. A single brings Junaid on strike to face his first ball. This could be Steyn's chance. Junaid plays a good forward defense and will see another over.
Over 92 - Pak 240/8 (Gul 13, Junaid 0)
Morkel replaces philander and steams into Ajmal. The tall South African quick would love a couple sticks as this has not been a successful Test for him thus far. Both Pakistan batsmen look as if they were given instructions during the break to get into line. WICKET. Ajmal tried to get into line but his technique leaves alot to be desired. The short rising delivery tracked back into his throat region and he was unable to drop his hands. The glove was found and de Villiers did the rest. Ajmal departs for 11.
Over 91 - Pak 240/7 (Gul 13, Ajmal 11)
Steyn is into his 6th over of the day, looking for that 10 wicket haul for the match. Gul plays a few defensive shots in a row which means that a big swing is probably on its way. The ball is guided down past gully as Gul picks up two runs. The pakistan speedster looks as if he has decided to concentrate and keep the Proteas out in the field as long as possible.
Over 90 - Pak 238/7 (Gul 11, Ajmal 11)
Philander continues after the break. Gul gets a top edge which just clears de Villiers and runs away for four. A few fielders are now back on the leg-side boundary looking for a mis-hit. An Ajmal leadin edge lands in the vast space close to the bat on the leg-side. The Proteas look as if they are just starting to get frustrated with this partnership.
Over 89 - Pak 233/7 (Gul 6, Ajmal 11)
Ajmal backs away from the pace of Steyn and slices the ball over the off-side for two runs. An inside edge goes for four. This will probably lead to Steyn bowling a bit quicker as his frustration grows. The batsmen don't look interested in getting into line and are thus just having a bit of fun while swinging at anything with a bit of width. There should be some quick runs and some wickets shortly. A very entertaining passage of play ends as the umpires call for drinks.
Over 88 - Pak 223/7 (Gul 6, Ajmal 1)
WICKET. Philander joins the party as Ahmed plays onto his stumps while looking to leave a testing delivery. Ahmed is gone for six and the star off-spinner, Ajmal, is the new man to the wicket. Ajmal is off the mark with a single. Gul is swinging like a rusty gate. There will definately be action while he is at the wicket. The pakistan fast bowler makes contact and scores four runs through the leg-side before normal service is resumed as he plays and misses.
Over 87 - Pak 218/6 (Gul 2, Ahmed 6)
Steyn is in again and looks as if he can smell blood. Ahmed plays well off the back-foot and picks up a single to expose Gul. A huge LBW appeal is turned down by the umpire, Gul lives to fight another day. Umar Gul finally lays bat on ball and picks up two down to thrird-man.
Over 86 - Pak 215/6 (Gul 0, Ahmed 5)
Philander is greeted to the crease by a wonderful drive on the up for four by Ahmed. A short delivery to Ahmed yields a single and brings Gul onto strike. Vernon will fancy himself to knock Gul over and join the wicket-taking party. Gul plays and misses multiple times but manages to survive the over.
Over 85 - Pak 210/6 (Gul 0, Ahmed 0)
Steyn pushes Misbah onto the back-foot early in the over before finding his usual full length looking for the strike. WICKET. Misbah is stuck in the crease after being pushed back and edges through to de Villiers as he just feels for the Steyn away swing. Misbah departs for 64. Umar Gul is the new man to the crease and the Pakistan tail has officially started. Steyn needs just one more wicket to make it ten for the match.
Over 84 - Pak 210/5 (Misbah 64, Ahmed 0)
Philander is attacking the stumps and causing some problems for Misbah. A single gets the new batsman on strike. Ahmed immediately flashes outside the off-stump and is lucky to the nick-off. Ahmed pops one up in the air but it lands safely to end the over.
Over 83 - Pak 209/5 (Misbah 63, Ahmed 0)
Steyn is bowling a bit straighter that usual. This is a good move as LBW and bowled then come into the equation. South Africa have enough runs that Steyn doesn't need to worry about being clipped through the leg-side. WICKET. Steyn strikes as he finds Shafiq's edge and is comfortably caught by Kallis at second slip. Shafiq is on his way for 56. Ahmed is the new batsman for Pakistan.
