  •

    Over 19 Morkel 4-0-1wd-1-1-4-1

135-8 - Hira finds the fence again, this time straight past the bowler. Bracewell, too, fetching four through backward square-leg.

  •

    Over 18 Kleinvedlt 0-1-4-0-0-1

123-8 - Hira rides his luck, to-edging four over the diving wicketkeeper's head.

  •

    Over 17 McLaren 1-0-1-W-W-1

117-8 - WICKET! Non-striker Anderson thinks McCullum's drive has gone past the bowler, who is quick to react and duly whips off the bails. WICKET! Bracewell in now, and watches from the other side of the pitch as McCullum planks the ball down the throat of Peterson on the cover fence.

  •

    Over 16 Morkel 0-4-1-1-1-2

114-6 - Morkel and de Kock they have McCullum caught behind, but umpire Holdstock begs to differ. The batsman then rubs salt in the proverbial wounds by edging the next delivery for four.

  •

    Over 15 McLaren 0-2-1-1-4-1wd-1

105-6 - More premeditation, this time from McCullum, who gets down to one knee to dink four over short fine-leg.

  •

    Over 14 Peterson W-0-1-1-4-2

95-6 - WICKET! Neesham, on the reverse sweep, picks out a fielder too, with New Zealand batsman dropping like veritable flies here. Great catch from Morkel. Anderson in now.

  •

    Over 13 Phangiso 0-4-W-1-1-1

87-5 - WICKET! Franklin tries to get under one, but doesn't have the carry over long-on. The shot was too low, too flat - and the fielder takes a comfortable catch on the fence. That's three wickets for Phangiso - far stronger than his figures in East London. McCullum in now.

  •

    Over 12 Ontong 6-0-0-1-1-1

80-4 - Right on cue, an off-spinner is into the attack - and soon lofted high and hard over long-off for six by Franklin.

  •

    Over 11 Peterson 1-0-0-4-1-1lb

71-4 - Left-arm Peterson gets through a tight enough over, but he soon gestures to his captain that an off-spinner should be brought into the attack to turn the ball away from the left-handers.

  •

    Over 10 McLaren 1-0-0-W-0-4

64-4 - WICKET! An ineffective innings from Munro ends, with a faint inside edge floating through to the wicketkeeper. McLaren's marginal lateral movement outdid the batsman, whose useless footwork did not help. Neesham in now.

  •

    Over 9 Phangiso 0-1-W-1-1-1

59-3 - WICKET! Another big breakthrough for Phangiso, who has McCullum hole out on the off-side. The asking rate is climbing quickly, so his bid to attack that delivery was on cue - to no avail, though. Franklin in now.

  •

    Over 8 Kleinveldt 1-0-0-0-1-0

55-2 - Kleinveldt switches to around the wicket in a bid to cramp the right-handers for room. The choice works, just two singles conceded this over.

  •

    Over 7 Phangiso 6-1-1-0-0-W

53-2 - More left-arm spin, which Guptill confidently launches six high and hard over the off-side. Phangiso does well to close a potentially expensive over on the quiet, though, and remove the dangerous opener too. WICKET! Guptill went on the sweep, but played at it too early, and watched in dismay as the leading edge bobbled into the hands of the man at short-leg. That's a huge first international wicket for the spinner. Munro in now.

  •

    Over 6 Kleinveldt 1-1-1-4-0-0

45-1 - Another right-arm seamer into the attack. Du Plessis maintains an attacking field, with two slips in place for Guptill. None in place for McCullum, though, with four perfectly placed wide of backward point. At least one slip might have him think twice about that particular shot.

  •

    Over 5 Morkel 0-4-4-0-0-1

37-1 - Guptill picking up where he left off in East London, slicing back-to-back fours through the cover region. Morkel needs to consider shortening his length.

  •

    Over 4 Peterson 4-0-1-6-0-4

29-1 - Guptill's brute force brings him four down the ground, after which a deft touch brings him a single wide of short thirdman. McCullum, meanwhile, reamains in the thick of it - lofting six over long-off. Big over for New Zealand - keeping them in the contest.

  •

    Over 3 Morkel 0-2-0-4-0-0

14-1 - McCullum takes in a string of sighters outside his off-stump, and then decides some extra length must be driven to the fence for four.

  •

    Over 2 Peterson 0-0-0-1-0-0

8-1 - One of South Africa's two left-arm spinners to open the attack alongside the seamer. Not much turn, but he won't give an inch in line and lenght. A mere single from the over.

  •

    Over 1 McLaren 1-1-4-W-1-0

7-1 - WICKET! Nicol's first and last runs for the day amout to four cut through backward point, after which McLaren traps him lbw dead in front of the stumps. That, indeed, was an awkward forward-defence. McCullum in now.

  •

    New Zealand's Chase

All and sundry back out in the middle, with Nicol and Guptill to open the batting. A stiff target of 180 needed.
