Friends Provident Trophy - Group B
Somerset 403-3 Innings Complete (J C Hildreth 151, M E Trescothick 144, P D Trego 74 no) v Scotland 252-9 Innings Complete (R R Watson 67, G M Hamilton 62, N F I McCallum 50) Somerset beat Scotland by 151 runs
Marcus Trescothick and James Hildreth both hit centuries as led Group B leaders Somerset Sabres thrashed the Scottish Saltires by 151 runs in their Friends Provident Trophy meeting at Taunton.
Trescothick hit 144 and Hildreth made 151 as they shared a second-wicket stand of 270 in 36 overs, the Sabres racking up their highest-ever 50-over total of 403-3.
The visitors could have removed the former England opener for just 18, but Trescothick - also captain in the absence of Justin Langer with a throat virus - was dropped behind the stumps by Simon Smith, standing up to Jan Stander.
That mistake summed up the Saltires' performance in the field and it was little surprise when Trescothick was also dropped on 112 by Sean Weeraratna at fine leg off the unfortunate Stander.
After bringing up the 250 stand by launching Matthew Parker over long-on, Trescothick was finally caught by Weeraratna at long-off, having faced 108 balls and hit 13 fours and two sixes.
Hildreth went on to his 150, off 140 balls, with 13 fours, his best one-day score, before falling to a full Stander delivery.
They were not the only ones in the runs, however, with Peter Trego smashing 74 not out off just 39 balls as Somerset made it maximum points from four games in the competition.
In reply, Scotland, who had won the toss, managed 252-9, with Gavin Hamilton making 62, Ryan Watson 67 and Neil McCallum 50.
They opted to bat for a respectable score but the outcome was never in doubt as Trego claimed 3-43, Alfonso Thomas 3-46 and Zander de Bruyn 2-32.
