Yorkshire Bank 40: Hampshire steamroller sorry Scotland

Michael Carberry: Rapid 45 against Scotland

Hampshire maintained their outstanding limited overs form with a nine-wicket Yorkshire Bank 40 hammering of Scotland in Glasgow.

The Royals have already booked their place at the Friends Life t20 finals day, and they are well placed to reach the semis of the YB 40 too, Hampshire the reigning champions in both competitions.

Scotland's innings was a tortuous affair - the hosts used up all of their 40 overs in scoring 136 all out.

Dimitri Mascarenhas took two early wickets, dismissing Freddie Coleman, lbw for one, and Richie Berrington for a duck.

Calum MacLeod quickly followed, steering Sohail Tanvir to slip for three leaving the Scots limping on 23-3.

Australia-born opener Hamish Gardiner (29) and South African Preston Mommsen (21) steadied the ship with a stand of 37 but Danny Briggs' introduction paid dividends.

The spinner drew false shots from Gardiner and Moneeb Iqbal (1) in his first two overs to leave Scotland 63-5, and when Mommsen was run out, that became 64-6.

Liam Dawson pinned Majid Haq for one, but keeper Matthew Cross (22) and some lusty blows from Gordon Goudie (26no) ensured the hosts had something to bowl at.

Tanvir returned to dismiss keeper Cross and Chris Wood bowled Ruaidhri Smith and Gordon Drummond in the final over to finish Scotland off.

Of the five Hampshire bowlers used, only Briggs (2-35) went for more than four an over, and Dawson conceded just 16 from his eight overs.

Hampshire's innings could not have been more different.

Michael Carberry - in sensational form in recent weeks - clubbed 45 off 27 balls before being stumped off Goudie, and he put on 98 with fellow-opener James Vince, who stroked 75no of 52 to get Hampshire home.

Skipper Jimmy Adams, in need of runs after a lean spell by his standards, finished on 13no as the Royals won the match with 24 overs and five balls to spare.

Scotland remain winless in the competition, losing 10 of their 11 matches, with the other rained off.
