Big Bash League: Sydney Thunder remain winless after defeat to Perth Scorchers

The Perth Scorchers made it two BBL wins this season after bettering the Sydney Thunder

Simon Katich was the star of the show as the Perth Scorchers inflicted yet another Big Bash League defeat on the struggling Sydney Thunder.

Katich struck 75 runs from 42 balls as the Scorchers claimed a six-wicket over the Thunder, who last won a BBL game back in December 2011.

The Thunder made a decent start after batting first with openers Daniel Hughes (24) and Tillakaratne Dilshan putting on 38 before Sri Lankan Dilshan (14) was given out lbw.

Veteran Mike Hussey took 20 deliveries to score his 13 runs while Kurtis Patterson come and went quickly, mustering just two from four deliveries.

It could have been a different story for Thunder's Eoin Morgan top-scorer had he not been dropped by Brad Hogg before getting off the mark.

Morgan was desperately unlucky to perish on 48. He got back into the crease while attempting to avoid a run out, but his bat bounced up by the time Shaun Marsh's throw hit the stumps.

Sydney's fireworks at the end of their innings were provided by Jason Floros, who clubbed a handy 37 from 24 deliveries - a batting display that included three fours and two sixes.

The Scorchers did not exactly coming flying out of the blocks. Craig Simmons was the first to go and he did little to help the strike rate, scoring his nine from 15 deliveries before being caught in the deep by Chris Tremain.

Shaun Marsh was next to go, although his partnership with Simon Katich provided a useful quick 30 runs before to being caught at the second attempt by Dilshan.

Adam Voges (8) provided some support for Katich before he was caught by Morgan from the bowling on Luke Feldman bringing Mitchell Marshall to the crease.

Perth were in control heading into the final five overs as they needed 30, although Katich was unable to steer them home himself as he chipped a Gurinder Sandhu delivery to Tremain.

However, his absence was not costly as Marsh and Ashton Turner secured the required runs, bagging their second win from four outings in the process while the Thunder prop up the table.
