Pakistan vs Australia
Pakistan win by 23 runs
Well, it's the first time Pakistan have beaten Australia in 13 games over all formats and they've done it in style! Umar Akmal was the man who did the damage with the bat for Pakistan, almost a lone ranger with his 64 off 31 the highest score by some way. With 167 on the board it seemed Pakistan may have been a bit short, but in the end it was more than enough. All the bowlers (Akhtar aside) have chipped in, with Gul, Ajmal and Aamer proving far too much for the Australian batsman. Join us again tomorrow for the second T20I between these two sides, it's sure to be a cracker.
Over 19 Ajmal wd-W-6-W
144 - Wicket! Australia are falling apart here as Johnson goes down swinging! He comes down track and swings over the top of the ball, Akmal is presented with an easy stumping and he doesn't let the opportunity pass. Well nobody saw that coming! Tait picks the ball of his toes and deposits it over the midwicket fence for a maximum! Wicket! Ajmal gets his revenge though as he has Tait stumped to seal a 23-run victory for Pakistan!
Over 18 Gul lb-W-2-1-0-W
137-8 - Gul returns. Wicket! What a beauty! There will be no heroics tonight from Hussey! A brilliant full delivery that seemed to swing in late towards the batsman who had no answer. Johnson digs the ball out into the leg side for two to get off the mark. Wicket! Gul finishes the over with another wicket! Paine shaped to play a dab round the corner the ball before and tries it again this time but is beaten by a bit of swing - into the right-hander this time having gone into the left-handed Hussy earlier! - and like many before him has his stumps rearranged.
Over 17 Aamer 4-1-4-1-W-1
133-6 - Super shot from Smith as he gets down low and clears his front leg, working the ball to the extra cover fence. Chipped over midwicket by Hussey and there are cries of 'catch' but it's well wide of the man in the deep and results in four more runs. Wicket! Smith's little cameo ends with his stumps disturbed as he looks to heave it across into the leg side but gets nowhere near it, an ugly looking dismissal for the Australian but Aamer certainly isn't complaining!
Over 16 Ajmal 0-lb-0-2-0-1
122-5 - Nicely played by Smith as he gives himself room and cuts into the off side for two. Ajmal's first two deliveries to the youngster have both been the doosra. Another good fine over from Ajmal.
Over 15 Aamer lb-W-4-0-1-4
118-5 - Aamer returns and immediately has a shout for lbw, but it was sliding down. Wicket! Another great catch from Afridi sends White back to the pavilion! White pushes forward and gets it off the bottom of the bat, the ball loops wide of Afridi at short cover but making ground and diving to his right the skipper takes the catch. Poor stuff from Aamer as he strays down leg and Hussey effortlessly dabs the ball to the fine leg fence. Great stuff from Smith as he clips his first delivery wide of mid on for four.
Over 14 Ajmal 1-0-2-0-4-6
108-4 - Guided wide of the man at short third man for two by White. White really wants to get after Ajmal but the spinner isn't allowing him a chance so White decides to make the ball work for him regardless, first manufacturing a clip shot to the square leg fence before cracking the ball over midwicket for six.
Over 13 Afridi 1-4-1-0-0-1
95-4 - Spin from both ends as Afridi continues. A poor ball from Afridi, a full toss on leg and Hussey clips it wide of midwicket for four. The momentum is certainly with Pakistan at the moment with two new men at the crease.
Over 12 Ajmal 1-W-1-0-1-0
87-4 - Ajmal joins the attack. Last time he played Australia an expensive over to Mike Hussey cost Pakistan a place in the World T20 final. Wicket! If he is thinking of that day there are no signs of it as he bowls Warner with a beauty. The Australian was looking to go leg side and was beaten for pace with his stumps disturbed! And now it's Mike Hussey v Saeed Ajmal round two! Hussey begins sedately enough, nudging the ball into the covers for a single. An outstanding over from Ajmal.
Over 11 Afridi 1-1-2-W-0-1nb-1
85-3 - Wicket! Perhaps a bit of frustration from Hussey as he looks to heave one over midwicket but skies it into the extra cover region, it hangs in the air for quite some time but Shoiab Malik takes the catch comfortably in the end. Afridi oversteps and White's first ball will be a free hit! White smashes a quicker one into the off side but it's straight to the fielder so just a single. The end of a good over for Pakistan.
Over 10 Gul 1-1-0-1-0-2
77-2 - Great stuff from Gul as he restricts the batsman to singles for the most part with Warner picking up two flicked wide of fine leg to end the over.
Over 9 Afridi wd-0-2-1-1-1-4
72-2 - Warner continues to look to plat Afridi into the leg side but the bowler prevents him from doing so initially before the Australian flicks the ball to long on for two - literally straight to the fielder but they still manage two. Clobbered straight down the ground and Warner finds the fence. He seemed to be growing frustrated by his inability to find the fence but he makes no mistake this time.
Over 8 Gul 1-0-1-2-1-0
63-2 - Umar Gul - the highest wicket-taker in T20I cricket - comes into the attack. Super running as Warner heaves the ball wide of long on and they immediately set off in search of two.
Over 7 Afridi 1-0-0-0-1-0
58-2 - Spin is introduced for the first time in the form of skipper Shahid Afridi. And he begins strongly, restricting the Australians to just the two singles; Warner in particular didn't look that comfortable against him.
Over 6 Razzaq 1-4-0-0-6-1
56-2 - Warner pinches a single to mid off before Hussey finds the fence once more, and again it's the cut shot that does the trick. Pakistan are being punished every time they offer too much width. Super shot! Hussey is beaten by Razzaq but bounces back well, coming down the track and lifting it over the long off fence for six.
Over 5 Akhtar 4-0-0-2-4-4
44-2 - A change of ends for Akhtar, let's see if it helps. It appears not! Hussey cuts the first delivery powerfully behind square for four. Better stuff from the fast man as he beats Hussey outside off. Driven sweetly by Hussey, it's cut off by Ajmal at mid off but they're able to pick up two. Four more! This time angled to the left of third man where a lumbering Razzaq can't cut it off. Another one! Wow, this is quite something, it's too short and too wide and get's the treatment as Hussey uses the pace of the ball to get it through point.
Over 4 Razzaq 2-W-0-0-0-1
30-2 - Not surprisingly after his horror show over, Akhtar is taken out of the attack to be replaced by Razzaq. Wicket! Great catch! After a few misfields in the previous over Afridi shows his team-mates how it should be done with a great diving catch above his shoulder at short cover to send Clarke packing. After a few nervous deliveries David Hussey nudges the ball to third man for a single to get off the mark.
Over 3 Aamer 1-1-0-1-1-1
27-1 - Ooh, a chance at point as Clarke plays it nearly straight to the fielder and they gallop through for the run and the misfield means it's an easy one when it shouldn't have been. The batsmen exchange singles to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
Over 2 Akhtar 4-4-4-4-4-0
22-1 - An 86m/h loosener from Akhtar is dispatched by Warner over cover for four. The crowd were going wild for the Rawalpindi Express before he started, but they are dead quiet now. Absolutely no respect from Warner, who has punished Akhtar for five consecutive boundaries! Driving, cutting and helping down the legside on his way to 20.
Over 1 Aamer 0-0-0-1-wd-0-W
2-1 What a start from the young left-arm pace man. He beats the other talented left-hander, Warner, with pure pace and then catches the bottom of Warner's bat with one that perhaps keeps a little low. The Aussie opener takes four balls to get off the mark and Aamer battles to adjust first up with a wide to the right handed Watson. Aamer comes back fiercly with one that beats Watson, and then Wicket! Watson is out lbw! He doesn't think so though, signalling his bat to the umpire. Definitely hitting if not for the edge, though hard to tell whether bat or pad came first. Anyway, Watson has to go for a duck.
