Friends Life t20: Nottinghamshire power past Leicestershire

Michael Lumb: rapid half-century from Nottinghamshire opener

Ian Butler: New Zealander claimed three wickets on Nottinghamshire debut

Nottinghamshire overhauled a target of 184 with 14 balls to spare for a seven-wicket win over Leicestershire in their opening match of the Friends Life t20.

Opener Michael Lumb launched the run chase in style with 50 off 29 balls, including four sixes, before James Taylor (37no) and David Hussey (49no) guided Nottinghamshire over the winning line in the 18th over with an 84-run, fourth-wicket stand.

Niall O'Brien had earlier top scored with 47 as Leicestershire - the record three-time winners of this competition - piled up 183-8 after being sent in under cloudy skies at Trent Bridge.

It was a solid team effort from the visitors, with all of the top four passing 20 at better than a run-a-ball, including O'Brien's 45-ball effort and Shakib Al Hasan's 31 off 14 deliveries.

Rob Taylor ensured the runs continued all the way to the end of the 20 overs, hammering two fours and two sixes in his 28 before he was out from the penultimate ball.

New Zealander Ian Butler marked his Nottinghamshire debut with figures of 3-39, while spinners Samit Patel (2-26) and Hussey (2-5) each claimed two wickets.
