Notts vs Glamorgan

Hales hits Dragons hard

Notts opener shared a first-wicket stand of 114 with Neil Edwards

Alex Hales: opener made 94

Alex Hales took the chance to shine at Trent Bridge before rain ruined the Clydesdale Bank 40 fixture between Nottinghamshire and Glamorgan.

England Twenty20 international Hales hit seven fours and three sixes to make 94, helping the Outlaws amass 264-6 after being put into bat.

The 23-year-old shared a first-wicket partnership of 114 with Neil Edwards, who contributed 58 for his first half-century in one-day cricket for the hosts.

A century looked a certainty for Hales - who hit two magnificent maximums, the first of which went into a hospitality box with the other bouncing back off the press box window - until he missed a full toss from Andrew Salter.

The same bowler then struck immediately again, bowling Adam Voges for a first-ball duck, but James Taylor weighed in with 40 from 50 deliveries.

Scott Elstone (16) and Riki Wessels (27) made further contributions to leave Glamorgan a tall order to win their sixth one-day game of the summer.

Rain delayed the start of the Welsh side's innings, with a revised target of 257 off 38 overs to chase, but another heavy downpour in the sixth over saw the game abandoned with the score on 20-0.
