Mumbai vs Hyderabad

Indian Premier League: Kieron Pollard takes Mumbai Indians home

Kieron Pollard: The all-rounder scored 56 of his 66 runs in boundaries

Cameron White: Hit an unbeaten 43 in a losing cause for Hyderabad

Kieron Pollard blasted Mumbai Indians to the top of the Indian Premier League table as his 66 not out saw his side past Sunrisers Hyderabad.

West Indian Pollard smashed eight sixes and two fours in his whirlwind 27-ball knock that saw Mumbai go past the Sunrisers' total of 178-3 with seven wickets and three deliveries to spare.

Sachin Tendulkar made 38 before having to retire hurt for the Indians, who then lost Dinesh Karthik just two balls later for 30 as they slipped to 99-3.

It seemed the Sunrisers would become the first visiting team to triumph at the Wankhede Stadium this season when Dale Steyn sent down a superb 16th over that cost just four runs, leaving the hosts needing 62 from the last four.

However the next went for 29, Thishara Perera being thumped over the rope on four occasions, including a hat-trick of sixes to finish from Pollard.

Easy equation

Amit Mishra then conceded 21 as Pollard registered his half-century from a mere 20 balls, his onslaught leaving Mumbai with an easy equation.

A further maximum from the all-rounder off poor Perera, who went for 55 in 3.3 overs, sealed the win; Rohit Sharma was unbeaten at the other end on 20 having played second fiddle in an unbroken stand worth 85.

The Sunrisers had hardly been slouches themselves in their innings, India international Shikhar Dhawan top-scoring with 59 from 41 deliveries.

The opener put on 38 with Parthiv Patel (26) at the top of the order before then adding a further 73 with Hanuma Vihari, who contributed 41 before becoming the second victim for paceman Lasith Malinga.

Hyderabad skipper Cameron White continued to take the attack to the Mumbai bowlers, hitting three sixes and the same number of fours in his 43 not out.

His efforts, though, were to be overshadowed by Pollard, who helped the Indians pull off the second highest run chase at the venue in the history of the competition.
