Friends Life t20: Lancashire Lightning crush Yorkshire Carnegie

Lancashire's Simon Kerrigan (L) is congratulated by Steven Croft after dismissing Jack Leaning

Lancashire moved to the top of the Friends Life t20 North Division with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Roses rivals Yorkshire at Emirates Old Trafford.

Needing 125 to win and move above Nottinghamshire, Lancashire reached their target in just 11 overs for the loss of just two wickets.

Stephen Moore maintained his fine form, making his third fifty in this year's competition and finishing with 66 not out off only 35 balls, while he was given excellent support by his opening partner Tom Smith, who made 42 off only 22 deliveries.

Batting first after winning the toss, Yorkshire struggled from the off. Adam Lyth top-scored with 32 off 24 balls and the left- handed opener's third-wicket partnership of 33 with Gary Ballance was the highest of the innings.

Ballance made 28 before he was brilliantly caught by Steven Croft, who dived forward from long-on to take a low catch off Arron Lilley, but by that stage of the innings the visiting batsmen had already been well contained by the accurate Lightning attack.

Simon Kerrigan celebrated the award of his Lancashire cap by catching both Joe Sayers and Dan Hodgson to reduce Yorkshire Vikings to 20-2 in the fifth over and the slow left-armer later bowled t20 debutant Jack Leaning for only two.

New Zealander Mitchell McClenaghan was the most economical bowler, conceding just 19 runs off his four overs, while Kerrigan finished with 1-22.

By contrast to their rivals, Lancashire began their innings with a rush of boundaries, Moore pulverising Azeem Rafiq's attack by hitting seven boundaries in the first four overs of the innings.

Smith then joined the fun hitting both Rashid and Liam Plunkett for sixes, the second of which landed in the top tier of the stand at the Statham End.

Rafiq dismissed Smith and Ashwell Prince, the latter being brilliantly caught for a duck by Lyth, in the space of three balls but Lancashire were not to be denied and Moore hit the winning runs with an emphatic straight six, much to the delight of an 11,000-strong crowd.
