Kenya vs Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe crush Kenya

Spinners settle Group A dead rubber

Reverse sweep: Taibu reached his half-century from 68 balls

Forceful: Sibanda upped the tempo

Zimbabwe signed off their World Cup campaign with a 161-run demolition of Kenya at Eden Gardens.

Tatenda Taibu (53), Vusi Sibanda (61) and Craig Ervine (66) each contributed a half-century to a total of 308-6 after Zimbabwe had opted to bat first.

And their spinners then ran riot, sharing the wickets around as Kenya slumped to 147 all out in 36 overs to finish a miserable tournament winless and rock bottom of Group A.

Zimbabwe, who were aiming to use the event to persuade the International Cricket Council they are ready to return to the Test arena, end up fifth with two wins from their six matches.

Having won the toss, Zimbabwe edged their way to 55 in 15 overs after losing openers Regis Chakabva (9) and Brendan Taylor (26).

Taibu was slower off the blocks than partner Sibanda but both led Zimbabwe's revival in solid fashion to put on 110 for the third wicket.

Captain Steve Tikolo - playing his last one-day international - went for 15 in his third over as Sibanda reached 50 with a six, but a mix-up had him run out while Taibu too departed shortly after his landmark.

Ervine kept the tempo going - finishing with nine boundaries and a six - as he and Elton Chigumbura (38) racked up 50 during the batting powerplay in a fifth-wicket stand worth 105.

In reply, Kenya's top order failed once again as brothers David and Collins Obuya were dismissed inside four overs.

Tikolo's final international innings ended meekly, out for just 10, as wickets fell in heaps with off-spinner Prosper Utseya (1-47) removing Tanmay Mishra (4) and opener Alex Obanda falling to left-arm spinner Ray Price (2-20) for 23.

A 29-run stand between Thomas Odoyo (14) and Rakep Patel (24) - both falling to off-spinner Greg Lamb (2-21) - and Nehemiah Odhiambo's late salvo of 44 not out brought Kenya some respite.

But they only served to delay the inevitable as Peter Ongondo (6) and James Ngoche (9) were dismissed by leg-spinner Graeme Cremer (2-28) around Elijah Otieno's (5) run-out.
