Ireland race to series win

Stirling inspires Irish to T20 triumph in Mombasa

Paul Stirling: Fine all-round performance in Mombasa

Ireland took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series with an comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Kenya at Mombasa Sports Club.

After easing to a six-wicket victory in the opening T20 encounter, Ireland reasserted their dominance with an equally-comfortable triumph to clinch the series on Thursday.

Middlesex opening batsman Paul Stirling starred for the tourists, taking two wickets and blasting an unbeaten 65 to help Ireland past the 132 target with 15 balls to spare.

Kenya's batting woes continued once again as they were restricted to 131-7 from their 20 overs after opting to bat first.

David Obuya gave the Africans a decent start with an innings of 28 at the top of the order, however both he and fellow opener Duncan Allan fell to Stirling's off-spin to stymie their progress.

Rakep Patel found and cleared the boundary twice to see Kenya up to 131-7, however the total never looked enough, and so it proved.

Stirling took the game away from the hosts with an unbeaten 52-ball knock which included nine boundaries.

Gary Wilson hit the winning runs to finish unbeaten on a run-a-ball 22 and both teams will resume battle in Friday's third and final match of the series at the same venue.
