Kent vs Sussex

Luke just Wright for Sharks

Spitfires shot down, meaning Warwickshire sneak above them

Luke Wright: second limited-over century of the summer

Sussex blasted their way to a home semi-final in the Clydesdale Bank 40 with a nine-wicket win over Kent, who narrowly miss out on the knockout stages.

Luke Wright crashed an unbeaten 101 and Matt Prior weighed in with 78 not out as the Sharks chased down a target of 211 with 10 overs to spare.

The result means contrasting fortunes for the two counties - Sussex will face Hampshire at Hove on Saturday for a place in the final, while the loss for Kent, coupled with Warwickshire beating Yorkshire, means Rob Key's side finish third in Group C.

The hosts had battled hard to record a total of 210-5 after choosing to bat first, a total that looked to be competitive on a sluggish Canterbury pitch.

Late impetus

Plenty of the Kent top order made starts, Key himself contributing 40 while Sam Northeast (21) and Darren Stevens (32) both departed when well set.

Brendan Nash top-scored with an unbeaten 52, but it was Geraint Jones who provided some much-needed late impetus with 37 not out from 18 deliveries, the former England wicketkeeper hitting three fours and two sixes.

However, their efforts were soon put in the shade when Sussex started their chase by taking 23 from the first two overs from the Pavilion End.

Although Chris Nash was bowled by Stevens for 20, the Spitfires simply had no answer to Wright and Prior as the international pair shared an unbroken stand of 152 in 21.4 overs.

Both players paced their innings superbly, all-rounder Wright hitting 13 boundaries to record his second one-day century of the 2012 summer.

Having taken his time to get established, Prior rushed the Sharks over the finishing line with a flurry of boundaries, Matt Coles coming in for some particularly harsh punishment as his five overs cost 53 runs.
