Match Drawn

Kent vs Leics

County Championship: Leicestershire see out draw with Kent

Brendan Nash: Scored an unbeaten 128 in Kent's first innings

Ned Eckersley: Grabbed a half-century to help Leicestershire see out the draw

Kent were held to a draw by fellow LV= County Championship Division Two strugglers Leicestershire despite final-day hundreds from Rob Key and Brendan Nash.

Kent declared on 353-3 for a first-innings lead of 167, but could not find the wickets needed for a dramatic win as Leicestershire closed out the match on 118-1.

However, Kent's first-innings dominance meant they earned 10 points to Leicestershire's four in a contest which saw almost a day and a half lost to rain at Tunbridge Wells.

The hosts had galloped along at almost 10 an over in the morning session in a bid to secure a reasonable first-innings advantage, whilst leaving themselves sufficient time to potentially dismiss Leicestershire.

Resuming on their Friday night total of 159-1, Key and Nash extended their second wicket stand to 190 from 55.1 overs.

Key was first to three figures from 181 balls -the 48th hundred of his first-class career - but soon after he was caught at long on off Jigar Naik for 106.

In the pursuit of quick runs, the hosts promoted Darren Stevens up to third in the order and the former Leicestershire all-rounder duly blasted 97 from just 58 balls.

Stevens blasted seven sixes and eight fours before being bowled by Naik, which prompted the declaration with Nash sitting on an unbeaten 128.

Leicestershire were given a scare when they lost opener Niall O'Brien (6) to a catch in the slip cordon when on six but Greg Smith (59 not out) and Ned Eckersley (50no) kept it steady thereafter to leave Kent still in search of their maiden four-day win of 2013.
