India v West Indies, 2nd ODI: Tourists win to level series

Darren Sammy: Unbeaten 63 inspired West Indies' victory

West Indies recorded a shock two-wicket victory in the second one-day international against India to level their three-match series at 1-1.

Half-centuries from Kieran Powell, Darren Bravo, Lendl Simmons and Darren Sammy allowed the tourists to chase down India's total of 288-7 with three balls remaining in Visakhapatnam.

India star Virat Kohli became the world's leading ODI run-scorer in 2013 but was agonisingly dismissed for 99 by Ravi Rampaul, who finished as the pick of the bowlers with 4-60.

The Windies' tour concludes with the third one-dayer in Kanpur on Wednesday, which is now a winner-takes-all contest.

West Indies elected to field after winning the toss and watched Kohli hold things together at the top of the India order, striking nine fours as he moved towards three figures at a run a ball.

Kohli had scored centuries in both of his previous two one-day international innings in Visakhapatnam but fell one run short of completing a hat-trick when Rampaul had him caught by Jason Holder.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni ensured the scoreboard kept ticking over at a healthy pace until the 50 overs were up, the India skipper adding an unbeaten 51 from just 40 balls, four of which were clobbered for six.

The target looked to be a demanding one for the tourists and they got off to a poor start when Johnson Charles (12) and Marlon Samuels (8) were both removed within the first six overs.

But a century stand between Powell (59) and Bravo (50) turned things in the Windies' favour, although spinner R Ashwin and wicketkeeper Dhoni combined to dismiss them both in the space of four overs.

Dwayne Bravo (18) also went fairly cheaply but Simmons and Sammy steadied the ship and set up the victory.

Simmons scored an admirable 62 but it was Sammy who was the real star of the show, the West Indies captain keeping pace with the required run rate by scoring an unbeaten 63 off just 45 balls, including four sixes.
