ICC Champions Trophy: India beat West Indies to reach semi-finals

Shikhar Dhawan: a second successive century for India

Ravindra Jadeja: first five-for in ODIs

India qualified for the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over West Indies at the Oval.

India knocked off their target of 234 with more than 10 overs to spare, once again anchored by new rising star Shikhar Dhawan.

The 27-year-old opener completed his second successive century after making his maiden ODI ton in the win over South Africa last week.

Dhawan finished unbeaten on 102 from 107 balls, moving to three figures with a six over third man off Dwayne Bravo.

Dinesh Karthick made 51 not out, sharing an unbroken third wicket partnership of 109 with Dhawan from 115 balls.

Earlier, West Indies all-rounder Darren Sammy smashed a rapid unbeaten 56 in just 35 balls to lift his side to a respectable 233-9 in the Group B clash.

India spinner Ravindra Jadeja had dismissed Johnson Charles for 60, Marlon Samuels and Ramnaresh Sarwan in the space of 14 balls as the Windies looked set to come up short of 200, but Sammy's late cameo gave them hope.

Sammy faced just 35 balls and shared an unbroken ninth-wicket partnership of 51 with Kemar Roach, who did not contribute a single run. Sammy hit five fours and four sixes in a blistering knock.

Charles hit eight fours and two towering sixes, reaching his fifty from 46 balls before being deceived by Jadeja and trapped lbw.

Jadeja also claimed the wickets of Sunil Narine and Ravi Rampaul on the way to figures of 5-36, his first five-wicket haul in one-day internationals.

Both sides won their opening matches in the tournament, so India have qualified for the semi-finals, while the West Indies will face South Africa on Friday in Cardiff with a place in the last four at stake.
