India vs W Indies

Last Updated: December 8, 2011 4:23pm

Only ever one team in it

It proved a rather underwhelming end to a match which will forever be remembered for the fantastic 219 by Virender Sehwag. There really aren't enough adjectives to describe the Indian skipper's innings of 149 balls which included 25 fours and seven sixes. He led from the front from the start and and let's not forget that Gautam Gambhir chipped in with 67 and Suresh Raina also scored 55. The West Indies never had a chance as they lost too many wickets too early in reply. Indian spinners Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Rahul Sharma made sure India completed the 153-run victory which also gave them a 3-1 series victory with still one more match to play.

    Over 50 Raina 0-W

265-10 - WICKET! Ramdin's thrown away his best chance of getting a hundred as he skies one to Rohit Sharma at mid-on. He gets out for 96 and gives India a massive 153-run victory.

    Over 49 Rohit Sharma 4-1-0-4-0

265-9 - Rohit offers Ramdin a juicy full toss and the wicketkeeper obliges by pulling it over mid-wicket for an easy four. He's hit 12 boundaries today and to be fair has looked really solid at the crease. Narine then also punches one through the covers for four as we enter the final over.

    Over 48 Raina 0-0-1-0-0-0

256-9 - Raina still continues and he keeps it very tight with just the single from the over. With 12 balls left, Ramdin will want those last nine runs to get the century.

    Over 47 Rohit Sharma 0-4-1-2-1-0

255-9 - Narine now gets another boundary with a drive through extra cover and Ramdin moves into the 90s. It's all rather pointless in the context of the game, but one has to wonder why the faster bowlers haven't come back on to try and wrap up the final wicket.

    Over 46 Raina 4-1-0-1-0-0

247-9 - Ramdin drives for four again through the covers as he continues to play for the personal milestone. The partnership is also nearing the 50 mark as Narine continues to tie up one end while Ramdin targets the boundary.

    Over 45 Rohit Sharma 0-6-0-1-1-0

241-9 - APPEAL! There's a big shout for lbw from Rohit, but the umpire says not out because of a faint inside edge. Narine responds by hitting a confident six into the crowd. He made it look so easy and, well, there is no pressure on him anymore so perhaps one could say he's free to just swing his arms without consequence.

    Over 44 Raina 1-0-0-1-0-0

233-9 - Perhaps this could have been so different had the West Indies side had the luxury of Chris Gayle in the starting XI. Then again, they will still have to question the way they bowled to Sehwag earlier in the day and Darren Sammy himself will rue the dropped catch.

    Over 43 Rohit Sharma 0-1-1-4-0-1

231-9 - It looks like this innings is now just about getting Ramdin to 100. He's up to 80 now and it's his best score in ODI cricket.

    Over 42 Ashwin 0-0-0-1-4-1

224-9 - Ramdin is going along nicely and picks up another four as he cuts Ashwin away. It's been a decent innings from the wicketkeeper by contrast to his teammates, but this game was lost ages ago.

    Over 41 Rohit Sharma 0-1-1-4-1-0

218-9 - Rohit Sharma is now into the attack with his little off-breaks. He strays one onto Narine's pads and the left-hander sweeps well to the boundary. The crowd is getting rather restless as they anticipate this final wicket. On 218 for nine, the West Indies still haven't reached Sehwag's score.

    Over 40 Ashwin 0-4-1-0-1-4

211-9 - Ramdin's really having some fun now as he gets hit front foot out of the way and swings Ashwin through cow corner for four. At this stage of the Indian innings they were 311 for one.

    Over 39 Jadeja 4-1-0-0-W-0

201-9 - Ramdin's looking very comfortable as he drives another one through cover for four. WICKET! That's Jadeja's 50th wicket in one day internationals as he take a comfortable caught and bowled from Kemar Roach. Just Sunil Narine to come and it's pretty much all over for West Indies who were never really in it from the beginning of the contest.

    Over 38 Ashwin 4-2-0-4-0-1wd-1

196-8 - This is more like it from Ramdin. Surely he understands that his place is always under threat with Carlton Baugh keeping the gloves warm in the Test side and he times a brilliant cover drive to bring up his fifty - his first since 2007. Time for another quick drink.

    Over 37 Jadeja 0-4-1-0-4-0

184-8 - Just when the match looked like it was entering Test match mode, Ramdin decides it's time rock back and pull one to the boundary. Roach takes his cue from the senior partner and bashes the ball past Jadeja. Well there's nothing more to lose for West Indies, so why not go down fighting and provide a little bit more fireworks for the crowd.

    Over 36 Rahul Sharma 0-0-1-0-0-0

175-8 - That's the end of a fine debut outing for Rahul Sharma. He claimed three for 43 in his ten overs. Those three wickets came in his first three overs. Just 14 overs to go now and if you were wondering, the required run-rate is 17.42.

    Over 35 Jadeja 0-1-0-0-0-0

174-8 - APPEAL! There's shout from Patel for a stumping. He doesn't seem as confident as last time when he got Andre Russell, but it's still sent up to the third umpire who correctly calls not out. Roach's foot did not leave the crease and I fear Patel was just trying his luck and keeping the batsman honest.

    Over 34 Rahul Sharma 0-1-1-0-1-0

173-8 - Close call there for Kemar Roach as the ball finds the edge of his bat, but fortunately for the right-hander it's past Parthiv Patel before he can even attempt a catch.

    Over 33 Jadeja 0-W-0-0-2-0

170-8 - WICKET! Jadeja strikes again as Rampaul's slog-sweep doesn't have the momentum to reach the boundary. It's comfortably taken by the substitute fielder Manoj Tiwary who's on the field for a tired Sehwag.

    Over 32 Raina 0-0-0-0-1-2

168-7 - Raina continues to probe outside off, but Rampaul's just not seeing it very well tonight. This track is still very good for batting, but when you've lost seven wickets already in a 400-plus chase it's never easy - even if you are Virender Sehwag.
