India vs S Africa
In the end, India prevailed by 26 runs in a very high scoring match. There was over 600 runs scored on a day that most of the quick bowlers would like to forget. The Proteas can only blame themselves as they bowled poorly to be behind and the break. Through de Villiers and Peterson, the South African's wrestled the game back into their favour, before throwing it away with two needless run outs. India on the other hand deseve a great deal of credit for keeping their heads and pouncing when the opportunity presented itself. Dhoni and his men are now just one victory away from qualifying for the semi-finals, while the South African's are a single defeat away from exiting the tournament at the group stage. All is not lost, but AB de Villiers and his team will have to improve in all aspects of their game and go on an unbeaten run if they are to challenge for the trophy.
Over 50 - SA 305 all out (McLaren 71, Morkel 8)
South Africa have done well to take this match to the final over. Unfortunately, it is not the nervous end that many would have enjoyed. 33 runs are required off the last 6 balls, which is not going to happen. The 300 comes up which will recovers ome pride for the South African batsmen, but it will not vail the dispear of defeat. Kumar ends it in style as he clean bowls Morkel.
Over 49 - SA 299/9 (McLaren 68, Morkel 6)
Morkel joins the party as he clubs Sharma for four before taking a slow single to get McLaren back on strike. Another boundary is squeezed away, but it is too little too late.
Over 48 - SA 289/9 (McLaren 63, Morkel 1)
Consistent Yorkers from Yadav has resulted in three dot balls to start the over. Finally, McLaren free's his arms and slices a boundary over point.
Over 47 - SA 285/9 (McLaren 59, Morkel 1)
McLaren hits what appears to be an easy two, but Morkel can't get back so just one is added. A reverse sweep finds the fence and then another single is taken to farm the bowling. It is very unlikely, but India need to be a little careful not to let this match drift away.
Over 46 - SA 278/8 (McLaren 53, Morkel 0)
Yadav is carved over cover. It may not mean much to the outcome, but it does bring up a well played 50 for McLaren. A single is taken, meaning that Morkel has one ball to survive in order for McLaren to get another over.
Over 45 - SA 273/8 (McLaren 48, Morkel 0)
McLaren swings and misses on multiple occations before finally taken a single off the fifth ball of the over. Morkel defends and gives McLaren another over to show his talents.
Over 44 - SA 272/9 (McLaren 47, Morkel 0)
McLaren slaps Sharma to long-off and turns down the single. He will be looking to deal in boundaries. He creams three deliveries to the boundary before taking a single to farm the strike.
Over 43 - SA 257/9 (McLaren 32, Morkel 0)
Jadeja blows a few dot balls before Tsotsobe tries to sweep off the stumps. He misses and it clean bowled, handing Jadeja another scalp. The injured Morkel has made his way to the middle. I don't expect this to last very long, as singles will not be his priority with an injured leg.
Over 42 - SA 257/8 (McLaren 32, Tsotsobe 3)
Sharma bowls a very tight over. McLaren picks up singles, while Tsotsobe struggles to lay bat on ball. Apart from the lack of wickets in hand, the required run rate is starting to blow out.
Over 41 - SA 253/8 (McLaren 30, Tsotsobe 1)
The batting powerplay has come and gone, once again claiming victims from the batting line-up. The man who turned the game on its head, Jadeja, is back into the attack. As usual Jadeja is through the over in a flash.
Over 40 - SA 251/8 (McLaren 29, Tsotsobe 0)
A couple singles and a two are worked off the over to bring up the 250. Kleinveldt then decides that it is time to launch one out of the ground, but he gets a top edge and Dhoni completes the catch. Sharma has come back and taken a few wickets which will help his confidence moving foward.
Over 39 - SA 246/7 (McLaren 28, Kleinveldt 1)
Yadav resumes the attack. Dhoni is looking for the extreme pace to clean up the last few South African wickets. Each dot ball is now being cheered by the Indian fans as they sense that a victory is on its way.
Over 38 - SA 240/7 (McLaren 23, Kleinveldt 0)
Sharma replaces Yadav and immediately gets smashed straight down the ground for four. McLaren and du Plessis are looking as comfortable as anyone who has batted today, but they have the added pressure of knowing that there is very little left in the hut to follow them. WICKET. Faf du Plessis tries to go over the top but only manages to get it as far as mid-off.
Over 37 - SA 233/6 (McLaren 17, du Plessis 30)
Ashwin is swept for a boundary at the start of his final over. It is difficult for the spinner to keep it quiet in the powerplay overs. If South Africa are going to come back from the death, then they can't afford to loose any more wickets.
Over 36 - SA 222/6 (McLaren 12, du Plessis 25)
The powerplay has been taken. du Plessis is throwing the kitchen sink at the pace of Yadav annd so far it is paying off.Ten runs come from the over as South Africa haven't thrown in the towel quite yet.
Over 35 - SA 212/6 (McLaren 11, du Plessis 17)
McLaren paddles Raina for a boundary to start the over. A reverse sweep yields another boundary, but will six wickets down India find themselves favourites going into the final 15 overs.
Over 33 - SA 188/6 (McLaren 0, du Plessis 7)
WICKET. Things have gone from bad to worse as Miller is run out without even facing a single delivery. Ryan McLaren is the new man to the wicket. He will need to replicate the 50 he scored in the warm-up fixture.
Over 32 - SA 187/5 (Miller 0, du Plessis 3)
WICKET. Yadav strikes as de Villiers runs down the wicket and spoons the ball up in the air. It's that man again as Jadeja takes the catch. Miller is the new man to the wicket.
