Pakistan salvage draw

Younus sees tourists to safety in Kolkata

Younus celebrates his century

Stand-in captain Younus Khan made an unbeaten century to guide Pakistan to a draw in the second Test against India.

Pakistan recovered from early trouble to finish at 214-4 in pursuit of 345 on the final day at Eden Gardens.

India's quest for a series-clinching win looked on course when skipper Anil Kumble took two wickets to help reduce the tourists to 78-4.

But an unbroken 136-run, fifth-wicket stand between Younus and Mohammad Yousuf (43no) ensured Pakistan travel to Bangalore for the final Test with an opportunity to claim a share of the series.

Younus reached his 15th Test century from 174 balls and went on to finish 107 not out, while Yousuf offered sensible support with 43.

Early trouble

Zaheer Khan made a breakthrough in the seventh over of the innings by taking a return catch from Yasir Hameed (14).

Leg-spinner Kumble, who chose to open the bowling, followed up by removing Kamran Akmal (14) and Salman Butt (11) to leave Pakistan at 65-3 in the 35th over.

And that became 78-4 when first-innings centurion Misbah-ul-Haq (6) was bowled by Munaf Patel.

But India's victory push was frustrated by the assured batting of Younus - leading the side due to Shoaib Malik's ankle injury - and Yousuf. The match eventually meandered to a draw in the evening session.

Declaration

In the morning, India added 43 runs in 6.4 overs before Kumble declared his side's second innings at 184-4.

Shoaib Akhtar (2-46) claimed the wickets of Mahendra Singh Dhoni (37) and Sourav Ganguly (46) as India chased quick runs. In the process Ganguly became the seventh Indian to pass 6,000 Test runs.

The third and final Test starts in Bangalore on Saturday and is being screened live on Sky Sports 2 from 4.30am (GMT).
