Friends Life t20: Glamorgan thrash Somerset by nine wickets

Jim Allenby: Excelled with bat and ball for Glamorgan

Jim Allenby excelled with both bat and ball as unbeaten Glamorgan thrashed Somerset by nine wickets at Cardiff to claim their fourth Friends Life t20 win.

Glamorgan restricted Somerset to 125-6 and then knocked off their target with 4.4 overs to spare, Allenby - who had earlier bowled four tight overs - contributing an unbeaten 47 from 47 balls.

Somerset decided to bat after winning the toss but made a dreadful start, Graham Wagg reducing them to 14-2 in the fourth over after taking the wickets of Marcus Trescothick and Craig Kieswetter with consecutive balls.

Michael Hogan then bowled former Glamorgan captain Alviro Peterson as Somerset lost three wickets in seven balls, but top-scorer Peter Trego (42) and James Hildreth tried to repair the innings and guided the visitors to 54-3 at the halfway stage.

They would suffer another collapse, though, Hildreth (29) bowled as he attempted to sweep Nathan McCullum and England's Jos Buttler making only one before he played on to Dean Cosker to leave them 78-5 in the 15th.

Craig Meschede (30) added some late impetus with two massive sixes - the only maximum of the innings - but Hogan's final two overs conceded a total of only 12 runs.

Glamorgan made a positive start to their reply reaching 38 without loss off the first five overs; Mark Wallace taking 14 from an over from Alfonso Thomas and then striking a six and a four in the next over off Yasir Arafat as the Welsh county brought up the 50.

Arafat got his revenge bowling Wallace for 30 from 19 balls, but that would be his side's only success as Allenby saw his side home with excellent support from Chris Cooke (42 not out).
