Glamorgan win by 8 wickets

Glamorgan vs Scotland

Dragons see off Scotland

Allenby and Rees on form as Glamorgan cruise to victory

Jim Allenby: Took three wickets before bringing win home with the bat

Gareth Rees: Scored unbeaten 60 in successful run chase

Jim Allenby impressed with both bat and ball as Glamorgan claimed a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Scotland in Group B of the Clydesdale Bank 40.

The hosts restricted Scotland to just 151-8 at the Swalec Stadium, with Allenby and John Glover each claiming six wickets.

Glamorgan reached their target of 152 with 12 overs to spare as Gareth Rees compiled an unbeaten 60 and Allenby also chipped in with 39 not out.

The Saltires made a solid start as they reached 27 without loss, but when opener Josh Davey was caught low down by wicketkeeper Mark Wallace for 11 the wickets began to tumble on the slow pitch.

Three wickets then fell in the space of 23 balls including the key wicket of Jean Symes, who fell for 11 after being was caught one-handed by Allenby (3-16) off his own bowling.

Preston Mommsen (41) and Ewan Chalmers (38) did their best to rebuild the innings, adding 60 in 19 overs as Scotland managed to avoid a total collapse.

Glover, who finished with figures of 3-34, returned to take two wickets in three balls, bowling Mommsen middle stump and trapping Ryan Flannigan lbw for a duck.

Glamorgan's openers - Rees and Wallace - got the chase off to the best possible start as they brought up 63 within the first eight overs, with Davey conceding 30 runs in his opening two overs.

The Welsh side's momentum was halted briefly when Wallace (24) was caught at mid-wicket from Richie Berrington's first ball.

Berrington then struck again to remove Chris Cooke for 13, leaving Glamorgan on 91-2 in the 14th over.

But there were no more blemishes for the home side as Rees and Allenby saw their side home with plenty to spare.
