Yorkshire Bank 40 final: Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad set to feature for Notts at Lord's

Steven Mullaney: Notts all-rounder has been in fine form of late

Nottinghamshire all-rounder Steven Mullaney says he can understand why the county are set to select Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad for Saturday's YB40 final against Glamorgan.

The England bowlers have been cleared to play in the Lord's showpiece by the ECB, which means two players who helped Notts reach the final are set to miss out.

And Mullaney said: "It's tough but that's the call the management have made.

"If you have two of the world's best players available, I'm sure any team in the world would like them.

"If they can make us stronger, that's good for us. It's harsh for the lads who miss out and I hope it's not me. We'll have to see how selection goes."

Paceman Jake Ball took 4-25 in the semi but misses the final due to a back injury, clearing Broad's route to selection somewhat.

Preparation key for Notts

It is 24 years since Notts last reached a Lord's final and Mullaney added: "This will be a massive game for us.

"We've worked really hard over the past three or four months. It all ends tomorrow at Lord's and we're looking forward to it.

"It's disappointing that we're in a relegation battle in the County Championship but we need to focus all our thoughts on Lord's and hopefully put a performance in."

Mullaney is likely to retain his place in the side, having taken 3-35 in the semi-final defeat of Somerset before making 125 in the recent County Championship match against Middlesex.

"I'm confident, as are the other lads," he said. "Things are going well at the moment and hopefully, after one more big day, we can get a bit of silverware."

Nottinghamshire will be hot favourites for glory on Saturday but Mullaney says there is no question of them under-estimating Glamorgan.

"Absolutely not," he said. "We'll prepare as we did for the Somerset game and hopefully get the same performance.

"We know that, if we prepare well and play as well as we can do on the day, we'll have a great chance of winning. We'll just be preparing as well as we can."

Glamorgan are the only county never to have won a Lord's final and it is 13 years since their last appearance in a showpiece.

They are underdogs, but they beat the reigning champions Hampshire in the semi-finals and they were fired up earlier this week by Notts all-rounder Samit Patel, who said the Welsh could not live with a star-studded Trent Bridge side.

In Aussie fast bowler Michael Hogan - the leading wicket-taker in county cricket this summer - all-rounder Jim Allenby and the veteran batsman Murray Goodwin, who is in superb form, they do have match-winners at their disposal too.

The YB40 final is live on Sky Sports 2HD - Saturday at 11am
