England Lions drew with New Zealand

New Zealand's top order enjoyed some useful batting practice on the final day of their drawn warm-up fixture against the England Lions.

In their final day of cricket prior to start of the first Test at Lord's on Thursday, the Black Caps reached 201-4 after being set a victory target of 368 from a minimum of 75 overs.

Jamie How and Aaron Redmond both hit half-centuries during an opening stand of 150 that firmly erased any thoughts the Lions may have harboured of forcing victory.

Matthew Hoggard - part of England's 12-man squad for Lord's - bowled an economical, but wicketless, six-over spell with the new ball.

It was Hoggard's Yorkshire colleague Adil Rashid who finally made the breakthrough for the Lions by removing both Redmond (64) and How (74) in quick succession after tea.

And the 20-year-old leg-spinner followed up by trapping Ross Taylor lbw for a four-ball duck - to go with his effort of five in first time around - for a third wicket that reduced the Black Caps to 170-3.

That became 186-4 when Hampshire paceman Chris Tremlett (1-14) won a leg-before decision against James Marshall (15) after beating him for pace, however stand-in skipper Brendon McCullum (21no) and Daniel Flynn (6no) were at the crease when a draw was agreed with an hour of play remaining.

At the start of the day, the Lions batted on for 12.3 overs to extend their second innings to 360-8 before captain Robert Key declared.

That was enough time for Graeme Swann (52) to complete a 41-ball half-century, while yesterday's centurion Michael Carberry - who retired hurt with cramp on Saturday evening - returned to the crease and was soon caught behind edging an attempted pull off Tim Southee (2-68) for 108.
