Day 1 of 1
Bangladesh A win by 4 wickets

England Lions vs Bangladesh A

England Lions: Consolation win for Bangladesh A

Naeem Islam: finished with 15 fours and two maximums

Naeem Islam led Bangladesh A to a four-wicket victory over England Lions at Taunton in the third and final match of their 50-over series.

Naeem, whose eight Test caps and 53 one-day internationals make him one of the more experienced players on the 'A' team circuit, made 121 not out in 100 balls to help the tourists chase down the Lions' imposing total of 319-7.

That denied England's second string a 3-0 clean sweep in the series, with home bowlers Ben Stokes and Tymal Mills coming in for some hefty punishment.

The result was wrapped up with an over to spare, Farhad Rez hitting Mills' final ball for six.

Lions captain Luke Wright chose to bat but opener Michael Carberry, a centurion in the second match of the series, was not able to cash in this time.

He was first out for 16 when he was caught by Imrul Kayes off the bowling of Al-Amin Hossain and Jos Buttler added 14 before he was castled by Robiul Islam.

But the third-wicket stand between James Vince and Gary Ballance was a profitable one for the Lions, with the pair adding 80 runs between the 11th and 26th overs.

Hampshire opener Vince brought up his 50 in 54 balls but was lbw to Sohag Gazi for 63 to leave the score 138-3.

Yorkshire's Ballance top-scored with 87, with James Taylor adding 44 swift runs from number seven.

Bangladesh might easily have baulked at the size of the chase but a 104-run third-wicket stand between Raqibul Hasan and Naeem set them well on the way.

Spinner Danny Briggs removed Raqibul for 72, stumped by Buttler, but Naeem measured the remainder of the chase with aplomb.

He reached three figures from 87 balls, thrashing Stokes for six to get there in style.

He finished with 15 fours and two maximums, but the winning moment was left to Reza who lifted Mills over the ropes to bring things to an end.

Stokes ended the innings with three wickets but went for a game-high 74 runs in the process.
