NatWest Pro40 - Division One
Gloucestershire Gladiators 119 v Durham Dynamos 120-5 (M J Di Venuto 52 no)
Durham beat Gloucestershire by 5 wkts
Durham Dynamos preserved their Pro40 Division One status with a five-wicket victory over Gloucestershire Gladiators on the final day of the season.
On a seaming pitch at the Riverside, Gladiators paceman Steve Kirby (3-28) produced an incisive opening burst to help reduce the Dynamos to 29-4 in pursuit of 120.
But opener Michael Di Venuto saw Durham home with an unbeaten 52, finishing the match with two successive boundaries off Richard Dawson (0-10) in the 27th over.
Gloucestershire had crashed to 119 all out in 33.5 overs after opting to bat first.
Kadeer Ali and Will Porterfield's second-wicket stand of 63 was the only highlight of a miserable effort.
Extra bounce from Steve Harmison found the shoulder of Porterfield's (36) bat for a catch at point - the start of a collapse that saw five wickets tumble for 18 runs.
Will Smith swooped from cover to run out Alex Gidman, attempting to get off the mark with a first-ball single. Then Harmison pitched one up to bowl Kadeer for 26, and the England paceman finished with 3-32 after pinning David Brown (0) lbw.
Off-spinner Gareth Breese took three of the last four wickets at a cost of eight runs as the tail folded meekly with 6.1 overs unused.
Had Durham lost they could have been dragged into the relegation play-off spot, but instead the victory sees them finish third in the table. Gloucestershire ended fifth in the nine-team league.
