Friends Provident Trophy - North Division
Durham 298-7 Innings Complete (M J Di Venuto 138, W R Smith 55) v Derbyshire 181 (G R Breese 5-41)
Durham beat Derbyshire by 117 runs
Durham stormed into the Friends Provident Trophy quarter-finals as Michael Di Venuto left the hopes of his former club Derbyshire hanging by a thread.
The Tasmanian left-hander hit 138 out of 298-7 and the visitors never looked like getting close to that target.
The Phantoms could only muster 181 in reply to lose by 117 runs at the Riverside.
The Dynamos, who followed three defeats with four successive wins, have completed their group games although Derbyshire can draw level with victory over Scotland in Glasgow on Wednesday.
But they would finish below Durham because of fewer wins having had two games washed out, and can now progress only if Lancashire win at Headingley on Wednesday.
Off-spinner Gareth Breese starred with the ball for Durham, taking 5-41 in nine overs through two stumpings and three catches in the deep and Derbyshire were all out in 37.5 overs.
