Derbyshire (9pts) drew with Warwickshire (10pts)

Ian Bell missed out on the chance to get some time in the middle ahead of the first Test against New Zealand as the match petered out into a draw.

Set an unlikely 378 to win in 69 overs, Bell found himself at the crease just five overs later after Ian Westwood fell for seven, but the England star could only make 28 before he was caught at slip off the bowling of left-arm spinner Nayan Joshi.

Warwickshire suffered another blow when skipper Darren Maddy, who had been dropped at slip on 15, was snared at silly mid off for 23 but Ian Trott (45no) and Michael Powell (35) showed the application required to frustrate Derbyshire.

The fourth wicket pair batted well into the final session, putting on 89 before Powell edged Jon Clare shortly after stand-in wicket-keeper Freddie Klokker had dropped him.

Klokker had earlier celebrated his maiden century after taking his overnight score of 76 to 103 not out, adding an unbeaten stand of 94 with Clare before Rikki Clarke called them in.

Day Three

Captain Rikki Clarke led from the front with the bat as Derbyshire finished day three against Warwickshire on 323-5, giving them a useful lead of 285.

Former Surrey all-rounder Clarke top-scored with an excellent knock of 81 that included 10 boundaries and a six.

He shared a crucial stand of 134 with Australian opener Chris Rogers, who came back in after retiring hurt to make 64, follwing a top-order collapse that had seen Derbyshire slip to 61-3.

Darren Maddy eventually ended the partnership but Freddie Klokker continued the recovery work, putting on 93 with Rogers before the overseas star fell in the final session.

Dane Klokker reached the close on 76 not out to help put his side in a strong position with one day to go in the Division Two clash.

Day Two

Jonathan Trott's century allowed Warwickshire to claim a first-innings lead of 40 at Derbyshire.

Trott made 104 of a first-innings effort of 310, although it could have been much better for the Bears, who at one stage were 238-3 before the last seven wickets tumbled for just 72 runs.

England wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose was left stranded on 34 not out, while Derbyshire seam duo Tom Lungley (4-70) and Charl Langeveldt (3-42) shared seven wickets.

Derbyshire reached 3-0 in their second innings by the close of the second day, still 37 runs behind.

Day one

Left-arm paceman Neil Carter took 4-65 to restrict Derbyshire to 270 all out at stumps on day one at the County Ground.

An eighth wicket partnership of 81 between Jonathan Clare and Tom Lungley boosted the hosts total from 128-7 after captain Rikki Clarke had earlier won the toss and elected to bat.

It was Clarke's opposing captain Darren Maddy who removed dangerous Derbyshire openers Chris Rodgers (19) and Steve Stubbings (23) in the space of five runs as the visitors seized the initiative with the ball.

John Sadler (5) was dismissed by James Anyon soon after, but it was Carter who stole the show as he went on to remove Dominic Telo (29) Clarke (22) and Freddie Klokker (0) to leave the hosts reeling.

However, Clare and Lungley both produced invaluable knocks of 66 and 50 respectively, combined with a breezy 24 by South African Charl Langeveldt as the hosts posted a respectable 270.

Warwickshire openers Ian Westwood (5no) and Maddy (7no) will return to the crease on Thursday morning as they saw out the remainder of the day to leave the visitors on 14-0.
