Derbys vs Scotland

Yorkshire Bank 40: Derbyshire against Scotland a washout

Chesney Hughes: Run out for 30 from 30 balls

Neil Carter: Claimed the wicket of Wes Durston

Derbyshire suffered their third consecutive Yorkshire Bank 40 washout at Derby when heavy rain ended the Group B match against Scotland with less than 10 overs bowled.

After Scotland won the toss and put the hosts in, only 9.3 overs were possible before a downpour halted play with the Falcons 36 for the loss of openers Chesney Hughes and Wes Durston.

The umpires waited until just before 8pm, but with no sign of any improvement in the weather and with rain still falling, they had no option but to call the game off.

The consolation for Scotland was that it was their first point in the competition after seven defeats, but it was another night of frustration for the home side under the County Ground floodlights.

After the YB40 matches against Lancashire and Surrey fell victim to the weather with only a total of 12 overs bowled, this latest no result means only 21.3 overs have been possible in the three games at Derby this season.

Skies overcast

Although the skies were overcast, conditions were dry when Hughes and Durston came out to try to put their team back on track after Tuesday night's defeat to Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.

The heavy atmosphere suggested the ball would swing, and former Warwickshire all-rounder Neil Carter took the opening wicket in the seventh over when Durston skied a pull to fine leg where Moneeb Iqbal took a well-judged catch.

In Carter's next over, Paul Borrington steered the ball in the direction of gully and set off for a single but Hughes failed to beat Richie Berrington's direct hit and was run out for 30 from 30 balls.

There was just enough time for Shivnarine Chanderpaul to get off the mark before the rain arrived just after 5.20pm and, with the whole square under covers almost three hours later, a third no result in a row at Derby was inevitable.
