Day 3 of 3
New Zealand win by 107 runs

Derbys vs New Zealand

Neil Wagner bowls New Zealand to victory against Derbyshire

Neil Wagner: New Zealand left-arm seamer finished with eight wickets in the match

Dan Redfern: Derbyshire batsman made defiant half-century

A fired-up Neil Wagner claimed 5-45 as New Zealand completed a 107-run win over Derbyshire on the final day of their tour opener.

Set a target of 335, Derbyshire were all out for 227 after tea with Dan Redfern's 58 the top score.

Wagner and fellow seamer Doug Bracewell - who are likely competing for the final place in New Zeleand's Test attack - combined for eight of the wickets.

Bracewell added figures of 3-56 to take his match tally to seven, while left-arm spinner Bruce Martin also picked up 2-35.

New Zealand declared their second innings on its overnight position of 199-5 and set about making inroads into Derbyshire's top order.

Wagner removed openers Chesney Hughes (15) and Billy Godleman (25), although not until after he had been spoken to by umpire Nigel Cowley for hitting Godleman when he tried to throw down the stumps.

He hurled the ball back at Godleman and knocked the bat out of his hand before raising a hand in apology. Cowley had words with both Wagner and the tourists' stand-in captain Kane Williamson.

Martin bowled Derbyshire skipper Wayne Madsen (6) and Bracewell followed up with the scalps of Wes Durston (26) and Ross Whiteley (1) to leave the county side on 98-5.

Redfern and Richard Johnson (14) resisted with a sixth-wicket stand of 58 but Wagner dismissed both and the tail folded quickly.

The 13th five-wicket haul of Wagner's first-class career gave him match figures of 8-78.

New Zealand will have skipper Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor available for their final warm-up fixture against England Lions at Grace Road (May 9-12). McCullum and Taylor joined the tour late due to their Indian Premier League commitments.

The two-Test series against England starts at Lord's on May 16 and is followed by three ODIs and the Champions Trophy.
