Canada vs New Zealand

Last Updated: March 13, 2011 12:13pm

The Kiwis won, but they will need to work on their bowling a lot if they want to take confidence away from this game and into the rest of the matches.

    Over 50 Ryder 1-wd-1-4-W

261-9 A single and a wide starts off the over beofre Chohan hammers four more down the ground. WICKET! He's gone next ball, though. He holes out to cover and Taylor takes the catch.

    Over 49 N McCullum 4-6-1-1-1-6

254-8 Uhm, where was all of this earlier? Chohan starts off the over with a cracking four through midwicket and then launches six towards the same area. A couple of singles follow and Hansra ends the over with six more. That was sent to long off and it was quite a lovely shot. A bit late now for all of this, just trying to make sure everybody wakes up and doesn't get stuck in the stadium.

    Over 48 0-0-0-1-0-0

238-8 62 runs needed now...per over. Everybody is waiting for the inevitable.

    Over 47 Oram 0-1-4-1-1-wd-4

234-8 Canada add 12 runs off that over but they need 125 off 18. There should be a rule in one-day cricket where captains decide to just end the game when it's in a phase like this. Kind of like they decide to draw a Test if there is an hour left...

    Over 46 Southee 1-W-0-0-0-0

222-8 Another wicket. Baidwan is caught at mid off but Hansra is back. Does he want his 100 or does he just want to frustrate every single person workong on this match?

    Over 45 Oram W-2-4-0-1-1

221-7 Most absurd run out. WICKET! Davison digs out a yorker, comes half way down the pitch and then decides to walk back. McCullum had a shy at the stumps and broke them before Davison got back. Ridiculous. Can Canada bat it out? Looks unlikely.

    Over 44 Southee 0-4b-0-1-1-1-1

213-6 Seven come from the over but that's not going to do anything to help the cauyse. 146 needed off 36 balls.

    Over Oram 43 2-1-1-W-0

205-6 Rao takes two to start off the over and the batsmen then rotate the strike with a couple of singles. WICKET! Breakthrough for New Zealand! Rao holes one out to long on, regulation catch.

    Over 42 Southee 1lb-0-1-4-1wd-1lb

201-5 Southee is back into the attack and a leg bye and a single starts things off. Davison then adds four to the total, very good shot from him but it won't matter much now. The required rate is close to 20 an over. There's a leg before appeal off the last ball of the over and Southee goes for a desperate review, but that's going down leg. The 200 is up for Canada, though.

    Over 41 Oram 1b-1-1-10-1-4

187-5 Massive delay here as Hansra continues to cramp up. He gets treatment from everybody, including the umpire and eventually decides to give up in the losing cause and retire hurt. A few singles and a four follow. Just nine overs left now and Canada need 167 off 54.

    Over 40 Styris 0-0-0-1-0-0

184-5 Err, just a single from the over and that's off the blade of Hansra. He now has a cramp. And a runner. Thought these thins only happened in Test matches..

    Over 39 Oram W-0-4-0-0-0

179-5 WICKET! Change in the bowling and it works immediately. Cheema tries to send one down to third man but he edges it and Baz takes a diving catch. Very acrobatic catch at that. Over pitched by Oram this time and a misfield ends up going for four. Lucky.

    Over 38Styris 1-0-1-1-1-0

179-4 Just singles from the over now. Surely Canada will bat even slower than what they did before Begai went out?

    Over 37 N McCullum 1-0-2-1-1-W

175-4 Bagai is really struggling out there. He's gone down with cramps again. It looks like one of those really horrific calf cramps, the one where your foot pretty much extends without you being able to do anything about it. After some treatment he decides to soldier on, though. All in pursuit of that 100, presumably. WICKET! Obviously it wasn't to be, though. He's gone off the last ball of the over. Breakthrough for New Zealand! Tried to go for the big shot but the edge carries through to the keeper.

    Over 36 Styirs 0-1-0-1-0-4

170-3 A couple of singles, as has become the norm, come in the middle of the over and Bagain then adds a boundary. Yes, believe it. A boundary. That's flicked towards deep backward square leg. Canada need 189 off 84.

    Over 35 N McCullum 1-1-1-2-1-0

163-3 A couple of singles start off the over as Bagai and Hansra seem content to chip away at the deficeit without showing any intent of going for the win. Bagai has a cramp and has to get some treatment.

    Over 34 Styris 1-1-2-1-0-0

158-3 Not sure what's worse right now. New Zealand not being able to take wickets or Canada going along at snail's pace. They take just six from the over, no boundaries. And the required run rate now edges closer to 13 an over.

    Over 33 Williamson 1-1-0-5wd-0-1-1

152-3 Alternatively, New Zealand can also gift Canada some runs to help them feel better. Williamson gifts the batsmen five wides and singles all round make up the rest of it. The required rate is over 12 now, by the way.

    32 Styris 0-0-1-0-1-0

143-3 Just a couple of singles from the over. It would be nice of New Zealand could pick up a few wickets and help put Canada out of their misery.
