Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka

Mominul Haque hits third Test century as Bangladesh bat out for draw against Sri Lanka

Mominul Haque: Made an unbeaten 100 before stumps were drawn in Chittagong

Bangladesh batted out the fifth day to secure a draw in the second Test in Chittagong - but Sri Lanka still end up winning the series 1-0.

Set a hefty target of 467 runs in the final innings of the contest, the hosts reached 271-3 when both sides agreed to end proceedings early at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Stumps were drawn straight after Mominul Haque had reached three figures, his unbeaten 100 helping Bangladesh comfortably survive.

Sri Lanka were made to work hard for the three wickets they picked up; it took them until the 30th over to make an initial breakthrough, and all five home batsmen who made it to the middle made useful contributions in the rearguard effort.

Opening salvo

Resuming on 12 without loss, the Tigers opening pair of Tamim Iqbal and Shamsur Rahman carried the score to 71 before the former was bowled between bat and pad by Kithuruwan Vithanage for 31.

Shamshur fell 10 runs later for 45, chopping on to Dilruwan Perera to give the tourists some hope they could still force a positive result.

However, Imrul Kayes and Mominul combined either side of lunch in a 70-run partnership that quelled any concerns about a home collapse.

Perera broke the alliance when he attempted Kayes to play across the line to be trapped leg before when he has 25 to his name, but by that stage the chances of victory for Sri Lanka looked extremely bleak.

Mominul blunted them into the evening as he reached his third Test hundred. His landmark arrived from 167 balls and after that, visiting captain Angelo Mathews decided he had seen enough with an hour of play still scheduled.

Sri Lanka had won the first Test by an innings and 248 runs in Dhaka. The two nations will now meet each other in two Twenty20 Internationals and a three-match ODI series.
