Duo double up Dutch

Denly and Rogers share unbroken third-wicket stand worth 166

Joe Denly: hit an unbeaten 96 to steer Middlesex to victory in Holland

Paul Stirling: runs and wickets for the visitors in Voorbug

Middlesex got off the mark in Group A of the Clydesdale Bank 40 with an eight-wicket win over the Netherlands in Voorburg.

Joe Denly and Chris Rogers shared an unbroken third-wicket stand of 166 to help the English county comfortably chase down a target of 213 with 16 balls to spare.

Opener Denly finished up unbeaten on 96 from 117 deliveries, the former Kent right-hander hitting six boundaries in his well-paced knock.

Skipper Rogers, meanwhile, needed just 81 balls to make 83 not out having come to the crease following the departure of Paul Stirling for 28. Dawid Malan was the other Middlesex wicket to fall, going for a first-ball duck.

Eight bowlers

The Dutch used eight bowlers in total, Timm van der Gugten and Michael Swart the two to enjoy any success, but simply couldn't find a way to slow down Middlesex's progress.

They had earlier battled their way to a total of 212-9 after being put into bat, opener Stephan Myburgh top-scoring with 66 from 88 deliveries.

The South African-born batsman shared stands of 50 and 64 with Swart (23) and Cameron Borgas (21) respectively before becoming one of four wickets for Stirling's occasional off-spin.

The home side's innings was also hampered by three run outs, all inflicted by Gareth Berg. Mudassar Bukhari was one to suffer such a fate having made a breezy 39 down the order, including belting three fours and two sixes.
