Mike Cammalleri: Netted the key goal for the Calgary Flames
Mike Cammalleri scored a power-play goal to lift the Calgary Flames to a 4-3 NHL victory over the Colorado Avalanche.
Joe Colborne, Jiri Hudler and Sean Monahan also scored for Calgary, whose goaltender Karri Ramo stopped 22 shots.
The Avalanche have struggled to score in the New Year but were able to cheer goals from Nathan MacKinnon (2) and Paul Stastny at the Pepsi Center.
John Tavares scored a hat-trick as the New York Islanders downed the Dallas Stars 7-3 in Uniondale.
The Islanders captain also added an assist during a game which saw rookie centre Ryan Strome score the first goal of his NHL career. Peter Regin, Brock Nelson, and Brian Strait also scored for New York.
Brandon Dubinsky scored against his former team as the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the New York Rangers 4-3 in a shootout.
Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky made 40 saves in overtime and two more in the shootout, stopping Mats Zuccarello and Rick Nash, while Mark Letestu and Ryan Johansen scored past Henrik Lundqvist to win it.
It was also a tight affair at the Bell Center, where Brian Gionta scored the Montreal Canadiens' winner against the Florida Panthers to register his seventh goal of the year.
David Desharnais (Montreal) and Sean Bergenheim (Florida) exchanged goals before Gionta seized on a Tomas Plekanec pass on 15:46 of the second period to settle a 2-1 home victory.
