Belfast Giants remained clear at the top of the Elite League standings with a 3-2 shoot-out victory over Coventry Blaze.

The Giants squeezed past Coventry 3-2 on Saturday and were pushed all the way again in Sunday's meeting between the two sides.

Belfast took the lead in the opening period through Evan Cheverie before Kevin Harvey tied things up in the second. Goals from Kevin Phillips and Michael Henrich in the third period ensured things were still level at the end of regulation.

The contest was decided when Craig Peacock scored a sudden death penalty shot and Stephen Murphy saved the subsequent Blaze effort.

Belfast are five points clear of second-placed Braehead Clan, who recorded a third successive win with a 4-0 triumph over Fife Flyers, Ed McGrane scoring first and last for the Clan.

In other action on Sunday, fourth-placed Sheffield Steelers lost 3-1 at Cardiff, while last-placed Edinburgh Capitals upset Hull Stingrays 5-3 following a strong second period when they took a 4-0 lead.
