Belfast maintained their four-point lead at the top of the Elite League with a 4-2 win away at Sheffield.

The Giants led 3-1 at the end of the first period and although Jeff Legue reduced the deficit for the Steelers in the last 10 minutes, Dustin Whitecotton netted an insurance marker late on.

Dundee kept the pressure on the leaders as Brock McPherson grabbed a hat-trick in a 6-3 win over Fife.

Bobby Chaumont gave the Flyers the lead after just 37 seconds but that was the only time they would be ahead as the Stars claimed the local bragging rights.

Edinburgh produced one of the shock results of the season so far as the basement boys claimed a 7-6 overtime win over defending champions Nottingham.

The Capitals had led 5-1 late in the second but the Panthers fought back to tie it at five before another exchange of goals took the game to the extra five minutes.

And Jade Portwood was the hero for the home side, netting the winner to give Edinburgh just their second victory of the season.

In Sunday's other game, Hull claimed a gritty 5-3 win over Cardiff in South Wales.
