Daniel Cleary: Scored the winner for the Detroit Red Wings
Daniel Cleary scored the crucial goal as the Detroit Red Wings edged out the Boston Bruins 3-2.
Henrik Zetterberg struck for the fifth time this season for Detroit in the opening period and although that was cancelled out by Loui Eriksson, the Red Wings quickly established their dominance in the second period through Stephen Weiss and Cleary.
Milan Lucic scored late in the third period to set up a tense finale but Detroit held on to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Joel Ward, Alex Ovechkin and Troy Brouwer all scored in the second period as the Washington Capitals claimed a 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers, who book-ended the scoring through Boyd Gordon and Will Action.
Brooks Laich levelled for Washington before their second period blitz wrapped up an ultimately comfortable win.
The Buffalo Sabres tied a franchise record for the longest winless streak to start a season after going 0-6-1 following their 2-1 defeat to the Minnesota Wild.
Former Sabres captain Jason Pominville scored the winner with a powerplay goal. Brian Flynn had earlier cancelled out Kyle Brodziak's opener for Minnesota.
